You quoted me out of context. What I actually said was that you need to connect to a WiFi network to download books wirelessly.

have we resolved this issue yet? I am so confused. Either you need to find a wifi hotspot or get a wireless router yourself. Right? I didn't know you could download book via usb. however I do have a wireless router setup up at my house since my wife and I both have a laptop.

There were too many statements that one must have a wireless connection to download from Amazon. This is totally false. Even those posts that referred only to wireless methods without specifically implying that wireless was the only method did leave the impression that wireless was the only option. Wireless connections are only needed if you wish to bypass using another computer as a "middle man". |

oh ok, so you CAN sync the kindle via usb with the "sync and check for items" option from the main menu? If I understand this correctly I will have to look into that more. When I am deployed to Iraq I am sure they do not have 3G and I am not sure how often I will have access to wi-fi since I am not paying the rediculous price for Internet there ( its like $1000 a month ). They usually have a cyber cafe type deal with computers and internet but I am not sure if the one we are going to will have wi-fi...

No they sync and check for items if for when you have downloaded new books via the wireless connection and/or when you have multiple Kindles. If you enable syncing and you turn on the wireless before you stop reading you can pick up where you left off in a book on one kindle on another kindle or app for kindle. So you finish reading a chapter on your IPhone and you want to read more on your Kindle. You turn the wireless on on your Kindle and sync to the farthest page read. Now you can continue on reading with little effort.
The USB is a traditional drag and drop. There is no need to check for anything because you have placed the book on your Kindle. |

Yup. You download it to your desktop and then move it to the device. You will have to identify which device the book is going to go to when you download it.
