Yeah! You're right! But then again it's not an MR kind of thread either.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking it up, and apparently hydrogen cars are mostly matching electric car ranges now, but both of them are problematic in that sense. I think electric cars are also pretty cool, anyway, and solar power has always looked interesting to me... I tried to convince my mother to install solar panels in her country house (which had no electricity) but she got some bad reviews from friends (who were using old info!) and she wasn't convinced at all by it (even though it's subsidized by our government).

Oh! sorry for butchering your name Daniela!

The last EV cars that existed used old technology batteries, namely Lead acid. If newer types had been used it would have been a different race.

If you'd like pertinent information on reliable solar installations, have a look at http://www.homepower.com/ It's the site of a magazine on the subject. I've been a reader of the paper version for a long time.

When my mother was setting up this house of hers, I found info on internet to give an aproximate cost for an complete installation (that gave 100% electricity to her house), and it wasn't that expensive... but she bought an electric generator (that she often doesn't switch on! ). I don't know how much sun you get in Canada, hehe, but sunny Mallorca can do very well on solar power (according to es.wikipedia: Hay 51 días de lluvia al año y 2.756 horas de sol. -> 51 rainy days per annum, 2.756 hours of sunlight).

Actually even though there is less sunshine duration in Canada, the efficiency of PVs (Photovoltaics) is enhanced by colder weather. When panels are heated over 40C their efficiency drops 30%. The hard thing here are the often consecutive 4-6 days without sun at -20C and lower. Fortunately we can compensate with Eolas.

We only get to 40ºC on peak days during summertime, we're one of those "temperate Med." climates (-20º! BRRRR!). Cool that you can reap the winds though.
