I've read all the WOT books published so far, even dreaded Number 10 (which took me many years and many tries to get through). But I also recently reread the first book, and it was fabulous. As a stand-alone book (it does nicely wrap up at the end) I can highly recommend that book, even if I can't necessarily recommend the entire series to someone I had forgotten how good that first book was, and why I was so enthralled with the series from the start.

Sanderson's Way of the Kings is off to a great start. I read the first, and only published, book over Christmas and it is excellent. The start is a bit slow but it picks up nicely.

On a slightly different note: If you enjoyed Harry Potter you will probably enjoy the graphic novels "Tim Hunter: Age of Magic" It is a very similar concept and a lot darker but it is really well done. Also ABC Comics ran a series called Promethia that is by far one of the best written series I have ever encountered. Really great use of mythology, history, religion and awesome art. Neil Gaimon's Sandman series is brilliant. On a lighter note, there is the Elf Quest series by Wendi and Richard Pini that is extrodinarily good.

I know they cannot be read on e-reader, or I wouldn't read them on an e-reader unless it was 10 inches and in color, but they are very well done comic series that are very enjoyable.

I think sometimes we ignore the realm of comics and graphic novels because they are deemed to be very different then books and literature but these are some of my favorite series and are deserving of much praise.

We seem to have similar tastes. I loved "The Way of Kings", "Sandman" (which I've read several times) and "Promethea". I'll have to check out the other series that you have mentioned.

Other graphic novel series that I've enjoyed are "Fables" "Y the Last Man" and "The Unwritten". I would especially recommend "The Unwritten" for fans of Harry Potter.

Fables and Y The Last Man were excellent. I never got into DCcomics but I liked many of the Vertigo books. ABC was one of the few companies that I read every one of their comics.

It has been a while, I might have to look into the Trade Paper Backs for Fables and Y the Last Man. I stopped reading comics when I met my Hubby and found my reading time taken up by dating and other things.

I haven't read Way of Kings yet, but I bought it when it came out. I didn't want to have to wait 2 years to read book 2, but I know I will read it soon.

I can't believe that I didn't mention "The Thief" (The Queen's Thief series, by Megan Whalen Turner). I just started reading "The Crown Conspiracy" and realized that it reminds a lot of this series. It is a series marketed to YA, but in my opinion it would be more readily enjoyed by adults. The writing is superb, and the characters are fantastic. I don't want to tell you too much about the series, so as not to spoil anything for you in case you decide to read it.

I enjoyed "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman. Not the best this I read in 2010, but an enjoyable read nonetheless, and I do plan on reading the sequel when it is published. Times described it as "Happy Potter for adults", and they weren't far off. While some elements of the novel really irritated me, there were other aspects that I thought were fantastic.

I couldn't get past the silliness of the term "wetboy"
Deadly assassins should never be referred to with silly nicknames... if you don't intend your work to be silly, that is.

Seriously? That's why you gave up on the series? I loved it and it got me hooked on Brent Weeks. I think "wetboy" is more like jargon than a nickname, and it does get MUCH better in the later books.

Not the only reason... no. But silly words certainly rank right up there as one of the "deal breakers", yes. But it's OK, Weeks seems to have enough fans that he won't have to cry himself to sleep at night because his work just didn't do it for me.

True. You should give Black Prism a try. Can't remember any silly words in that one...

Thumbs up for Dragonlance (I'm an addict), and Ender's Game is also quite nice.
