Okay, the Nook Color screen resolution is native 854 x 480. It's my understanding that it is actually scaling up for the 1024 x 600 resolution.
Jack, that video that you posted, it's a neat snow vid, but brother, that is not the kind of video that I would use to show off any device. Most of the HD video that I've been converting to 854 x 480 actually even looks respectable on my 1920 x 1080 computer monitors. Regarding the youtube functionality, I guess they've been running Android froyo on NC for a couple weeks now, still in development, but the word is that Flash video is already functioning. I have a few things that I would have enjoyed having on the NC, like a simple built-in microphone for example, but all in all, the video ability of this device is one of the last things that I'd try to pick apart. Overall, I'm just really amazed by the value in this the Nook Color device. |

I seem to be having a similar problem with Youtube videos being poor quality that some others have reported. Just got my nook color today, still at 1.0.0, unrooted. Going to Youtube mobile site, all the videos play at about half of full screen size (landscape) and are very blury and pixelated. No chopyness or other problems. My WiFi is good - I use it fine with laptops on youtube and Netflix on the Wii.
Now the odd part: I went to www.vimeo.com, tried some videos and they play just fine. Full screen and very good quality. Not perfect HD, but fully up to my expectations for this device. Playing the Nook videos from the B&N site also works just fine. So this seems to be a youtube issue. Is there some setting that I'm missing for youtube? Also noticed that B&N included a link to the Yahoo movie trailers site, but I can't get any to load at all. I'm assuming this is a Flash issue, but it seems weird that B&N would include a link to a site that doesn't work with the NC. |

Is everyone using the custom application for Youtube handheld devices? I did a search for HD trailer and played the Tron Trailer and it looked pretty good.

I have to agree that the current crop of Android tablets are not at all that good. They won't be good until the hardware is good and the software is up to 3.0 and has a fully capable non-hacked android marketplace. So until that happens, the only decent tablet is the iPad running iOS 4.2.1. Basically, Andoid 2.x is not ready for tablets. Companies like B&N are just trying to play catchup to the iPad and failing miserably.

I don't know about failing miserably. It's marketed as a dedicated eReader with extras at $250. I don't want an iPad.

Is this available for an unrooted NC? I thought there were several posts saying that they had no problems with youtube on an unrooted NC. Where do I find this custom App?

I believe Kryto is referring to rooted NCs. He may have overlooked that the thread is more so about unrooted NCs.

Small update: I've rooted my NC and there's been no change to Youtube video accessed through the web browser (built in or Dolphin HD). Still small, blurry and pixelated. But now that I'm rooted, I can use the Youtube app and videos through that are very good.
So for an unrooted NC, my experience was that Youtube vids look pretty bad. I don't know how to change that other than rooting and using the app instead of a browser. |

My utube videos were playing(some of them) on my edge with the update. Which I got before the company went belly-up, but now nothing. What do I do?
