Yes, it seems that the stalk is a plastic-type material and resilient, returning to its NORMAL contours. Metal would potentially be more able to bend to a new shape with gentle pressure.

A hair dryer might be able to provide heat.

But as I've played with the light, I have not really found a new position that is that much better but maybe I have been reluctant to bend/flex it too much.
