I have not seen any from the wild though when I had a geeky moment at the office telling someone I was going to get one, someone said they spotted someone in the metro rail transit station using one.

I haven't seen any kindles in the wild, but I've seen many ipads at a service design conference in Sweden, a service design conference in Germany, at my design grad school in Germany, and only 2 in the US at an airport.

I'm trying to find e-Readers in the wild. Any recommendations on where to look? I've just been hoping to find them in areas, where one might find people waiting-- airports, train stations, and cafes. No luck so far.

I've seen a smattering of mostly Kindles on trains, both in Liverpool, London and travelling in between the two. Best, though, was on the Eurostar a couple of weeks ago. Both going to and coming from Brussels, of all the people sitting around me only 1 had a paper book, the rest of us (about 6 in all -it wasn't a busy train) were on e-readers!

I think the majority of E-Readers just leave their devices at home. Its less on the wallet to lose (or break or get stolen) a $5 paperback than a larger more expensive gadget. Its not like your can put your Kindle in your pocket and hide it.

That would surprise me. Most people buy them because they are so easy to use on their commutes.

I have never seen a Kindle with the exception of my own, my sister's K2, my daughter's K3, and ones on display in Target.

After I got mine, I was excited to take it to our notoriously slow doctor's office. Of course, after years of waiting for hours, they have now added a partner and there is virtually no wait. I'm lucky to read a paragraph before being called back.

I would love to meet some real life Kindlers other than family members.

I've seen one in a doctor's office and in a coffee shop. Mine fits in my cargo shorts pocket (or slacks) just fine, thank you.

I'm living in a relative small city (80.000 inhabitants) and have never seen an e-book reader at all. I have my Irex Iliad for almost 4 years and two years ago this was an even bigger exotic object.

I suspect you can find more e-book reader in the big cities but I know for myself that I'm on the right track. The hill billies need more time to adjust anyway.

I just realized why there are so few Kindles in the wild where I am at this quote. Depends where you are, I guess and how big a portion the Kindle's price is to your disposable income. I'm never bringing it when I commute.

Besides the risk of it being stolen, the only way I'll be able to keep it intact is to commute via expensive vans, "FX's" as they are called here, or take a taxi cab. Jeepneys (extended Jeeps with bench like seating) here are road hazards and buses are rolling coffins. You get tossed every which way when you ride one of them or compressed into such a small space that you won't be able to think or both! The same can be said for the metro rail transit, our answer to subways only they rise into the sky instead of being buried in the ground.

That makes sense. Most US buses, trains, and subways are fine for reading and people use Kindles there. I am sure that there are some places in the US where people are less likely to use expensive electronics but I would imagine that you wouldn't find too many Kindle owners in those area. I am guessing the same holds across most of Europe, Canada, and Australia. Those are the areas that I see the most posts from.

While flying back from Florida last year I caught this scene. Three Kindles, one was mine, on a plane. Pretty cool.

I saw another Kindle on my bus ride to work this morning. It must have been a Christmas present because the lady reader is a regular on my bus and I haven't seen her use it before. That's two now. They're taking over the world, folks.

By the way, I love that pic of the three Kindles.
