You're welcome. They're public domain books, which can be downloaded for free on any ereader. Too bad they can't be that way on the DS.

I just finished wrapping a Nook WiFi for my 15 year old daughter. It's a good device for a kid who's not really into video games or anything like that. She loves to read and we read many of the same type of books, so at least we'll be able to share.

We paid about $15 for the books that we bought for ours. I haven't looked into downloading books because so far my daughter doesn't seem to be doing much with it, so I don't see any reason to go beyond the two or three cartridges she has. She gets a lot more use and benefit out of her Leap Frog Tag reader.

I looked around a bit to find out if this was the case for sure but didn't find out anything. I did see that it take an SD card so maybe you need to have that in it to save downloaded books.

In the meantime, I'm still trying to decide about a Kindle for my teenager. I think a NOOKcolor would be way cooler for his age but they are just way too expensive.

My youngest is 7, but at the moment my wife and I don't even have an ereader, though we want to get one soon. I'm okay with having printed books for kids. The pictures and diagrams help them to understand the words and helps them learn to read.

My daughters have iPod Touches and do read on them, as does my wife.

That's awesome. I hope her parents consider buying her one.

I am only worried about a Kindle gathering dust in my son's room. He likes to read but not enough for my liking. I want to encourage him with an electronic gadget but at the same time don't want to waste the money if he doesn't use it.

I guess I could just ask him but I love for Christmas gifts to be a surprise.

Every child should get an ebook reader in their Christmas stocking. Every scrap of knowledge about the world is in a book somewhere. They learn, it enriches their lives and triggers their imagination. Receiving an ebook reader should be mandatory. C'mon, I'm an author. What d'you expect me to say? ;-))

I'm seriously jealous. I finally broke down and asked my teenager if he would like to have one and he turned it down. He plays the PS3 with no prompting.

He's getting a new car stereo instead.

My daughters, 18 and 21, are supremely indifferent to ebooks (except for occasionally cheering on their dad for getting a new book up for sale). They're both voracious readers, and cheerful users of other electronics. They just believe books ought to be "real" books. My wife likes ebooks, and I do. It's weird for the younger set to be more resistant to this kind of change, but there you have it.
