EDIT: I never thought about the collapse of big book industries leading to a thriving of small bookstores. Maybe we should aim for it to collapse faster.
This point is interesting because brick and mortar is fading. We have seen this with the DVD rental store. Now we will see it with bookstores. BUT there could be a demand for smaller bookstores with print books. I know i don't want print books to go away.

Lending to the concept of the smaller bookstore is the fact that Toys R Us now has the Toys R Us Express, a mini-Toys R Us. Also, Walmart is building mini-Walmarts. These models make for convenience and are able to shift into smaller communities. There is no reason the smaller bookstore won't work as well.

Good point: Creating smaller bookstores means you can create more of them, spread into areas that wouldn't support one big store. The space of a small used bookstore, available at most strip-malls and shopping centers, would be enough for one of those mini-bookstores.

The downside is, they could end up as heavily-franchised cookie-cutter shops, like most fast-food shops, and might not be considered too highly by the media and the public. But if done properly, they could be very popular.
