The Kindle is so comparatively inexpensive, that I'm sure that many iPad owners, like me, will also own a Kindle. It doesn't have to be a case of "one or the other".

So the Kindle is definitely here to stay -- until new color technologies come along and the price for those devices drops to around 200-250.
Survey had 2/3rd of iPad owners reading books. Of those who read books, 50% bought kindle books, more than the 42% that bought apple books.

7 million iPads sold in the first six months. 2/3 of that is over 4 million folks reading on iPads. Have of that gives you over 2 million folks reading kindle books on iPads.

Of course, the 7 million number is now 2 months old. The number is likely over 9million iPad owners and 3 million of this are reading kindle books.

With an iPad you can buy books from Apple, but also from Amazon, B&N or anybody else. Amazon say that 20% of their sales are now to people who don't own a Kindle. I'm one of them.
"People who don't own a Kindle" also include iPod, iPhone, Kindle4PC and Kindle4Mac users (and any other devices that have a Kindle app).

I own a Kindle, a Kobo, an iPod and a brain in a box.

So what does that do to the statistics?

Ditto! I read exclusively on my iPad and most of my paid books is through Amazon, so sales figures only represents sales, not devices used for reading.
