I have over 150 books on my NookClassic and only owned it 6 months. I have a selection of SD cards for my NOOKColor since I have movies, mp3s, etc for it depending on mood and use. It also has the same ~150 books on it. The number keeps increasing, I bought 2 more books yesterday.
If I had to store my mp3s on the NOOKColor directly I would want more than the 5GB I have available on the device itself. But I put them on my 8GB SD cards and don't worry about it. Just my use cases. |

Yes. You are using a tablet. An SD card on a tablet makes sense.
Most folks are not going to get into trouble being able to store 3,500 books on their e-reader. If someone wants to listen to a ton of audio books, an MP3 player makes more sense then an e-reader. If someone wants to read books and listen to audio books an e-reader and MP3 player makes sense. My IPod Nano takes up no space and can hold 16 gbs of music. My Kindle takes up little space and holds 3,500 books. You buy a device that fits what you want to do. I don't want to watch movies on my e-reader so I would not buy a tablet. |

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and have never considered putting them on my Kindle; an mp3 player makes a lot more sense. MP3 players are a lot smaller, are lighter, and can be a lot cheaper. If you add a cover to a Kindle, it's no longer pocketable; even "naked" it's just barely pocketable.
For books, 4GB is plenty, and 3,500 books seems quite plausible, as most kindle books are easily under 1MB. Just looking through Amazon's site - the new John Grisham is 432pp./576KB; the new James Patterson is 384pp./397KB; the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is 480pp/867KB. If you are interested in books with a lot of pictures, however, this will likely not hold true. |

One consideration for making space on the Kindle (if it ever gets tight) is that the books you get from Amazon can be deleted from the Kindle but still remain in your Amazon account. I haven't had the occasion to delete any Amazon titles, so I don't know how those deleted books are shown to you, like whether they go to the Kindle's "Archived Items" list or not.
Holler if you want to know exactly how it works, and I can try it. With no audiobooks, I currently have 2.361 GB of space remaining, with - 336 ebooks and magazines and newspapers, - 19 newspaper back issues Plus 102 archived items (ebooks not on the Kindle, but rather on Amazon that I can pull down at will). |

I put my audiobooks on an 8GB Sansa Fuze, even though my Libre Pro can handle them. They are just more manageble that way, I can put more on the Fuze, I can easily pick up where I left off on each ebook, it's lighter and easier to carry when walking, and when I play the audiobooks through my car's stereo I can put the player in one of the little niches designed for a garage opener remote which keeps it out of the way.
Remember, too, that audiobooks sound fine at 64kbps, so there's no need to keep them at the size you would for a music file. That allows you to load more audiobooks on your device. ![]() |
