When using the stand alone scripts. There is a separate script which takes your CC# and generates a key. The key is stored in a file and used by the actual DRM-stripping script. You only use the keygen script once per CC #.

When using the Calibre plugin, either use a pre-generated key file (as above) or add your CC# to the plugin's preferences. In the latter case, your CC# is stored in plain text - which isn't good. I hope this gets fixed in a future release.

Thanks for your help. Haven't purchased anything from B&N yet. Haven't needed to but nice to know that it can be done.

bolt.org forums have a lot about removing DRM, and lots of links to tools to do it:

they have links to a *lot* of other stuff.
those forums are not heavily moderated so like, use your own judgment.

FWIW,

As the last poster said ... visitor beware ... I just looked at that bolt.org site. They do not seem to be the authors of *any* of the tools themselves. The scripts and instructions are old or dated and require registration to get to the downloads that are freely available in other places. For example, if you want IHeartCabbages scripts simply go to his site and download them. There is nothing there ebook-wise that is not already part of the tools package on the Alf site which is open, full source included, and does not require any registration to download anything.

The bolt.org does seem to be the repository for stolen books if I am not mistaken (I did not actually download any of them to verify that).

I am against DRM but I am for keeping all of our authors, publishers, and ebook stores, happy and profitable!

OK, I have the plugin installed (correctly I hope). I tried downloading a book from my library. It has an extension of .acsm. I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I added it to my Calibre library and tried to convert it. I get an error message "Could not convert because no suitable source format was found. What am I missing? I copied the downloaded file into Calibre. Is that what I should do? And how to I then get the file onto my Kindle. Thanks in advance for helping such a novice. PMs are welcomed!

As was explained here before. It is against this site's policy to provide links to any DRM removal tools. We all love Mobileread.com and no one wants to see it get shutdown (or attempts to shut it down) just because some countries allow PACs, lobbyists, and industry payoffs to drive their law making.

So if you want something, you need to google for it yourself. Google is your friend and google's best friend is "Alf" who is an "Apprentice" and is especially helpful when you are looking for a "blog" with "tools".

This is not rocket science. Give it a try and explore.

A *.acsm is not an ebook. It is a "ticket" to get an ebook directly from the supplier. In this case you must use Adobe Digital Editions and open the *.acsm file with it (or your Sony Reader Library or any other ADE supporting software) and it will download the actual ebook.

Yes with Calibre and the right plugin you can import an entire directory. If you are on Mac OS X then there is a drag and drop tool that can do an entire folder of books (even mixed types) at once.

Thanks. I don't want to get this site in trouble. I didn't want step by step directions, just a point in the right direction. I'll dig deeper. There's lots of info out there. I'm sure I will be able to figure it out. Thanks for letting me know the .acsm isn't the actual book.
