I agree that it's probably legal, at least in the US, but that doesn't make it right or ethically above board. I don't use the law as my moral compass, and I honestly think that my analogy of not being allowed to read about windows if you use a mac is a good one. It matters not if they're allowed to do so, or they're being semi upfront about it, it's worse behaviour than what MS did in the early/mid nineties, and frankly I find that despicable.
Oh, and I also agree that if they could stop people from reading about Windows they would. I have no doubt. I was twenty years on the platform, and in the last five years it was an uphill battle to get real functionality and useability with regards to both hardware and software, and the hill got steeper and steeper to overcome all their crap, closed ecosystems, and the constant workarounds.
I am now using Thinkpads running Windows 7.
