I'm not sure if this is how the Sony case works but I saw a case for the nook at best buy (can't remember the name right now) that was really nice. It was a portfolio type style case and the light was inset on the left side of the case next to the reader right next to were it folds open. The light can then be popped up and would turn on automatically when it was and lit the screen well. The front cover could be held like a book or folded behind. It really is the type of case I am looking for.

On a sidenote I carry it around in the clumsy box for now lol

Thanks for the recommendation! I bought this cover at Best Buy yesterday and it's a good, snug fit for the reader. A much better value than the default cover by Sony. I'm afraid I can't post pictures either, but can reiterate emonti8384's caveats about the functions and buttons that are covered by the bottom lip and the two top straps. The trade-off for protection is reasonable.

I almost bought the boxwave case recommended by someone else on this forum, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of a return ship if I didn't like the fit.

I know, isn't it a nice cover? It's funny, my reader slid out of my book bag and fell while I was at Walmart-not even a scuff. Not that I want to go around winging my reader into things, protected or not. I'm glad you like it!

So picked up the official Sony lighted case today. I like it a lot. Does all I could ask and fits it perfect. Love that it uses the holes on top and bottom to snap in and the way the light is integrated.

For $35 I would have been much happier with it but at $55 after tax I still really like it and it is the best solution I've seen.

I know the added bulk is minimal, but does anyone know how well the decal girl skins work with one of these? Especially since it uses the clips.

How do you get the discount code? I registered mine but didn't see anything about discounts or coupons. I even emailed Sony asking about it, but so far haven't gotten any really relevant response.

HarmonS, I'm not sure about that (I'm sure someone else can chime in) but an alternative is that you can just call them up and they'll give you at least 10% off but probably 15% if you just ask.

Congrats! I'm loving mine for the week I've had it.

I am ordering a decalgirl skin for it. The 950 skins wrap around from front to back right to left, and there is no skin on the small top or bottom parts of the 950 where it clips on. So the clips should make no difference. I'm not really worried about the wrap around edge part inhibiting movement either; I can't imagine the skin being anywhere near thick enough to cause a problem.

However, I will receive mine soon so I can tell you when I get it. But, they've told me I may have to wait a bit as I've asked a custom question and they've forwarded it to their art department to have a go. They say because of holidays I may have to wait a week or two for the mock up.

The plus of having a decal skin with our Sony covers is that since our readers clip on the top and bottom, we can turn the reader over and see the pretty back sides of our decal skin whenever we like.

Thanks for the reply. Going to assume myself it will fit fine but let me know if you get yours first.

What kind of custom work you getting done? Didn't know that was an option. Really want the matching wallpaper though, which I suppose my new Sony case makes irrelevant but still.

Just so you folks know, there's currently a coupon for 15% off DecalGirl skins through the 18th. It's 15THOUSAND I believe. Also, if you don't want it in time for Christmas, they have a $2 and up "Super Saver" shipping option that isn't currently showing up under shipping choices in the cart (but is listed in their shipping information you can find a link to at the bottom of every page), and "Amie Marie" on live chat told me to call in for it, and that the coupon would also be good over the phone.

Thank you! Great to know. Just wish I could custom request a decal with a wallpaper that isn't on the list of 28 specifically for the 950

I think you can. You just have to navigate to the design you want, then pick the device from the drop-down menu, but it's $5 extra. I think they also have a way of putting (non-copywrighted) designs you send them on a skin. I might want this one http://www.decalgirl.com/design.view/598 but I don't like the $5 extra and I'm terrible at making decisions anyway.

Thanks for the instructions, natasha! It wasn't obvious to me how to order a custom design besides calling by phone. Also, I found that if you look at the product pages for the Sony Touch (650) or the Kindle then it gives you a general idea of what these other designs might look like on the 950. And there are definitely way too many choices that I like too!

Yes, I definitely want the wallpaper too. There are two ways to get custom designs (I am somewhat of an expert on this now after spending a week deciding on my design! ).

First, you can search by design. On their main page, on the left hand side of the top menu, under "More ways to shop", choose "Shop by design". It will be $5 extra if the design is not already made for the 950, but you can choose any of almost 2000 different designs and they will make it for you, and you will get a wallpaper.

The second option is if you want a design to look a different way (different colour, laid out differently, etc.) or want a design that's not already on their website. Then, you'd fill out a "custom" form. But beware, you won't get a wallpaper if you order a custom design!

You definitely can! See my instructions above; just shop by design.

There is a link they gave me for a "custom" design that I never found on the website (though the link may be somewhere, I don't know). It is: https://www.decalgirl.com/page.view/customwork.htm

But that link is only for actual "custom" skins (altering an existing design or using a design not on the website). If you just want a design not already on the 950, as natasha said, you just browse by design and choose the design and device and they will make it for you.

And also, yes any design you see on the 350 or 650 pages will look basically the same on the 950 probably. The Kindle will be laid out differently because from what I can tell, the Sonys are the only device that wraps around front to back right to left (like a book). Most other devices have the same design repeated on both sides, or the design wrap around left to right instead of right to left. But the Kindle and nook pages will also give you good ideas on how it might look anyway.

However, I figured something out after a few days of consideration that helped me a lot when browsing designs and made things much easier. I browsed by design, and if I liked the design, I just did a search for it (in the top right corner search box), and it will bring up pictures of all the devices that have that design already made for it. It's very helpful in seeing what the design might look like, and how a design may differ from device to device.

Apparently you can also request that they alter the hue of a skin, depending on if the artist has allowed that kind of modification. I think it costs $5 or so extra.

I was looking at the styles available for the other Sonys too. Unfortunately the skins for the 900 were only for the front, so looking at the 900 isn't that helpful. I just wish more were available for the 650 to look at.

I've been using the color filter to look for things, since I'm pretty sure I want a blue skin (I would have bought a blue 950 if they were available). It's too bad the brown and goldish ones I like wouldn't look right if altered to blue.

(I don't even have my 950 available to me yet! Somebody stop me!)

I just received my Decalgirl skin for my daily reader, the custom design of the Infinity artwork. YES, it came with the digital download for the standby screen.
