In the nook color's defense, from my personal experience, the clarity of the screen and the text readability blows away devices like the Pandigital Novel and Velocity Cruz. I do wish the screen of the nook color had the 4 x 3 aspect ratio though.
When I first got my JE100 (which also uses a 16x9 screen), I thought it might be a minor negative point. However, I find it perfectly usable to read. The page is a bit longer, is all. Naturally, if you have a fixed-width page (like comics, or PDF's made for 4x3 formats), you'd lose a lot of space. But on the JE100 I use mobipocket, so no problems there.

Lately I've been doing a fair bit of reading on my Droid, which is "narrowscreen," and for most usages it's great. I don't mind the screen for prose at all, and I've had great success with Aldiko and Kindle for Android in particular.

Unfortunately, the two things I want a color screen for, are comics (you can get almost the entire run of Planet Comics in the public domain) and some of the game rules PDFs I've bought over the years. Both of those benefit hugely from a single screen per page presentation, particularly double column PDFs.

So just like Eink vs. LCD, it's all horses for courses.

Exactly. I love my 6 inch eink screen for reading novels, but I would like a larger screen for PDFs and a colour screen for comics.

I find 7" too small for comics anyway. (naturally, depending on the size of the comic naturally). It is doable if you rotate the screen and read landscape. But even then it's the minimum size I'd like to read a comic on...

That would be Archos:

Android is supposed to have an downloadable app for a browser with flash support. Plus a native youtube app. B&N might allow the latter onto the NookColor someday if it hasn't already.

I actually use my Droid X, the app "Perfect Viewer" loads them up, and it shows panes at a time and you scroll down the page, the text is crystal clear, I was REALLY surprised how well it worked, and it's very comfortable.

I like to see the whole page in one go... Especially since the panes aren't always the same size.

The most important requirement is that the new reader be able to download library ebooks from Overdrive (Adobe DRM, yes?), and as far as I know my ipod can't. I am tired of paying for books!
Sorry to jump in late and if you already bought one then great. But there is at least Bluefire Reader for reading Library books via Overdrive on your iPod Touch.

Still, the screen size is a pain except just before bed when I can hold the iPod closer to my eyes. So I usually end up preferring my Kindle (got one cheap, otherwise I'd be weighing the same choices you are) for extended reading.

Hope that helps.

After reading this thread and some online reviews, I must admit I am a bit impressed with the versatility and lot of features of the PocketBook IQ. I returned the Nook Color because the locked environment and absence of landscape mode (for ePubs). It looks the Pocket IQ is not so restricted and there is no need of any hack to release the whole Android potential.

I'm leaning towards the pocketbook but will first go to B&N and play with the Nook Color. I do like the idea of the PB being an open platform.
Decisions, decisions...
So, what did you buy?
