I can't think of any books that I *had* to have, in the sense that I wouldn't have gotten a Kindle if those books hadn't been available. However there were a few books I liked so much I "rebought" them so I could have them with me always.

The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, starting with _Her Majesty's Dragon_ (which by nice coincidence was available free.)

Many of the Vor books by Lois McMaster Bujold (they start with _The Warrior's Apprentice_ or _Cordelia's Honor_ depending on whether you want to take them in order as published or in order as they occur in Bujold's universe)

I think the first book I bought (for the first time) for my Kindle was _Your Inner Fish_ by Neil Shubin. Well worth reading, in my opinion.
