My laptop can be easier on "mature" eyes and handles PDFs better, while the Touch is better for portability on the bus/train, in the passenger seat of the car, etc. Different strengths and weaknesses for each device means there are some circumstances in which one's the better choice while the other fits different circumstances better.

I have two devices, but they are the same, Aluratek Libres.
My reason? Simply said:

Wife and five kids.

Gotta spread the love, right?

I buy mostly out of gadget lust but I try to keep it useful. My Dad's using the PRS-700 right now, I'm too busy with school to read and he reads under a reading light anyways so the glare isn't an issue.

I really only use 2 of my readers at this point: the 5" jetBook for portability and breadth of readable formats including ADE + the 9.7" Kindle for reading/word-game ease at home and the great bookstore.

Between these 2 devices I can read almost any ebook comfortably and conveniently. Oh, and I listen to audio books on a zen mp3 player when moving (car, bus, airplane, train). This covers basically everything and I am very happy - except now I read and shop for books so often that I am behind in my regular work! ;-)

I'd like to give my daughter (17yrs old) the Netronix 6" eink device. But teenagers just don't seem interesting in reading offline content :-(

Hi

Good question… I have several different answers for that and cannot decide wish one is more decisive, examples:

1 - because I need more functionalities, and they are available I a new device;

2 - because I keep on buying new ones and the old ones do not die (still fully functioning and giving a perfect service);

3 - because I need/like to have a big screen to read academic papers (magazines and the likes) , but also like to carry a light eBook reader with me everywhere and specially to the beach (hell by beloved Cybook Gen 3, who is near 3 years old weights just 174 grams);

4 - because… (put here another auto - invented excuse)

5 - and because, I’m lucky enough (in these troubled times), to be able to say that is also because “I can” (…have them).

Best regards,

I love the term 'gadget lust'. I think it applies to me for sure.

I have an IPad and a Kindle and both bought within a month or so of each other.

For weeks I considered getting either/or. I had lusted after a Kindle for a year or more but I also loved the idea of the IPad. I finally settled on the IPad. My reasoning was that, if I bought a Kindle, I would still lust after the IPad because it was so much more versatile. I just didn't consider that it could also work the other way around.

I was/am very happy with the IPad. It is everything it says and a bit more but darn it, I still wanted the Kindle. It is also a very good time to buy as the Aussie $ is so close to the US$ - there are always justifications in my mind if I want something badly enough.

So, I am the smug and happy owner of two wonderful gadgets that I didn't own six months ago.

The Kindle was my first ebook reader..I loved it so much that I bought my non-tech mom a Kindle. We live 500 miles apart and love to share books. Having two Kindles on the same account has made it easier than shipping paper. Plus I like buying from the Amazon store and reading news updates on the wireless.

I bought my first Sony PRS-505 for library books...but it became my primary reader because I preferred the smaller size. I recently upgraded to a PRS-650 (and sold my 505 to a friend)...love the swipe page turns and new Perl screen.

Between the two, I feel I have the best of both worlds.

Gadget lust! Oh yes. But as a resident of Canada, I frequently found that books advertised on the Sony eReader Store were not available in Canada. That was frustrating and for the most part I have eliminated that hiccup by getting a Kindle as well. Between Amazon and Sony I am most always able to get the book I want. But I confess that I am looking with lust at a Nook or Kindle DX. In the case of the latter, it has nothing to do with need or logic. Oh well...

Because he/she who dies with the most toys wins.

I don't know if quoting yourself is considered tacky but I much prefer posting a correction than going back to make edits.

I was dead wrong. I got the nook color early and after comparing it to the 350 I just couldn't make myself use it (the 350) again.

I've given the 350 to my mom and the DX she has will go out to my sister.
