I'd been having a love-hate relationship with the WoT series since 15 years ago. I love the first few books for introducing me to the genre of fantasy. My friends who read it will always discuss the plot with me after I finished it too.
But then after Book 6, when i hoped for more revelations about the plot, the author instead introduced more people and more sub-plots into the series. Frankly, i got very lost at times and had to re-read chapters or the books again just to remember who is this person and where he/she was mentioned before. After book 10, I got disillusioned as to when will this series ever end. But I do love the story. Jordan had created a very detailed fantasy world. Now I just want to know how it ends. |

Book Ten is the low point. It gets better after that. With book eleven, The Knife of Dreams, you begin to get a sense that the plot is moving toward the end, rather than just spinning its wheels.

I started the series in the early nineties, and rattled thru the first 3-4 books pretty well. I enjoyed them..... but then came the wait for new books to be released, a year or two apart somethimes.......... I would forget what had happened, and have to go back and reread the previous book, or in a couple of cases the whole series.
By books 7-8 I was beginning to feel annoyed that the bloody thing was nowhere near ending, and I've not read another since, telling myself I would wait untill it was complete, and start again from scratch. So when is that last book due? |

Think it was November of next year but I could be wrong.
Thats why I decided to pick it up and try to read it again. I kinda figured and now Im hoping that I can get up to date by the time the new book comes out. But the more I attempt to read it the more Im beginning to wish I just opted to read Harry Potter from beginning to end. The funniest part is reading it, getting bored and realizing that this is only the prequel. Im sure it gets better. It has to. Last edited by NVash; 11-19-2010 at 12:24 AM. |

I can only guess that the reason book 5 is so late (if ever) that he is trying to correct past mistakes. I hope it is not to ever expand the story into oblivion. |

Book 7 and on fell apart because Jordan (or his publisher) tried to ink out extra books from the storyline and it backfired. Now that the storyline is back on track and not in a million directions, its much better. Sanderson's writing is much more "current" to put a term to it. Its very refreshing to be honest. Towers of Midnight IMO was the best book of the series so far. Non stop action until the very end.

OK - I'm going to buck the trend here. I LOVE this series. Towers of Midnight is one of the only pbooks I've bought in ages, I had it pre-ordered, and had to force myself to go to work the day it arrived on my doorstep!
I started reading this series in 1993, and because there have been long gaps between the books I don't know how many times I've re-read it. Yes, the progress of the storyline did get slow around books 9 and 10, but it picked up again in book 11, and Sanderson has done a fantastic job with books 12 and 13. There is now just one more to go (phew) and I will finally get to find out how it ends - which is why I made it through books 9 and 10 in the first place! If you're at all like me, you may also enjoy Leigh Butler's re-read of the series on tor.com (currently starting book 10). |

I love WOT, and have read many of the books several times. Started the series in highschool, I think it may have even been before book two was out. Just finished Towers of Midnight and I would agree that it is one of the best books in the series. Looking forward to #14, though part of me isn't as it will mean no more WOT to look forward to. I think I will start the series at the beginning in a couple of months so that I will be ready for the end.
