You're right DG - thanks for the course correction - this is why I stayed out of the politics forum as long as I could - I've still only read half of one thread in there so far !!

Back to the utter silliness

I'll take groping and nakedness please!!

As far as I'm concerned, if I am being forced to either be nude (digitally or physically), in a setting more public than home (or equivalent) or a medical office, or submit to having personal regions of my body groped by strangers, that's assault. I do not CHOOSE to be less than fully clothed in the presence of strangers (exception: medical examination) or to accept intimate physical contact with someone I do not know (again, exception for medical examination).

Part of the answer is this: Profiling should be used to let some people past the security checkpoints who are obviously not terrorists. There are many people who are obviously not terrorists, you could just take one look at my grandma, and maybe speak with her for 20 seconds to realize that she should be sent right on through the security checkpoint. This is not to say that you can spot a terrorist on sight, but you can spot some people who are not terrorists.

If the processes currently in place would single out my grandma as a potential threat, the processes are broken and should be scrapped.

We simply must use profiling to the fullest extent possible as the first layer, and then use other methods for those who “fail” the profiling test.

I think it's great that 36% of respondents will be stripping naked at the airport. If that were only an accurate representation of the general population we would have some interesting times at airport security.

"Is everyone comfortable flying with me. As you can see I have nothing to conceal."

I just hope they get ZP to step out of that bubble bath. Who knows what she's hiding in those bubbles.

I'm going to strip naked. Although anyone who knows me will realize this will represent a clear and present danger to airport security.

I look forward to the chemical residue swab.

All the "certain public degradation is just fine if there's even a faint chance of a fraction of a percent of more safety until the bad guys figure out how to outwit the latest round" types should maybe consider this:

If prison inmates were being subjected to strip searches and groping with no probable cause whatsoever, the ACLU and such would be shrieking in hysterical outrage about human rights violations. So why is it OK for law-abiding travelers to be forced to submit to searches that convicted criminals would be able to file big-dollar lawsuits over and win?
