I got the setup-message:
"Waiting for the battery to be fully charged (now 27%)".
Well, this is what I do now: waiting.

My iLiad is connected to power supply, last power blackout happened ages ago; so why is this stupid (imho) message needed? iRex, this was not a good idea!

Previous updates handled low battery with "Please connect to power supply". Why not this time?

[Edit:]
Oh, I read iRex's e-mail again. Step 1 says:
Quote:
Your battery must be fully charged before you can attempt this upgrade.
Uuuh, I forgot this needed step! Ok, it was my fault to get this low battery warning.
[Edit II:] Maybe the low battery warning BEFORE instead of AFTER download & extraction of update would be better.

@yokos

I complained about the battery-thingy when we got this update for beta-testing and was told that it has something to do with a "power cycle" during this update would brick the Iliad.
The info in the "Update Mail" was put in due to my complaint. Apparently the Iliad needs to have battery AND outlet-power for this update for some reason...

Release Notes v2.9.5 (pdf 97 KB)
Text looks same as of e-mail, but with screenshots, which helps a lot.

Do I rembember correctly? The Release Note is part of the downloads after the main setup was gone through.

Ok, I got 2.9.5.

Well... I know most people have upgraded with no problems, but there have been enough serious problems reported that I'd like to wait a bit to see if they need to upgrade the upgrade.

I found M's bug with the SHELL section duplication in er_registry.txt file processing during the 2.9.5 upgrade.

Its /usr/bin/do_updates.sh, M forgot to add SHELL to the always_update...

Code:
        echo "Rebuilding registry to new version: $registry_key"

        # semicolon separated lists of registry sections
        always_delete=""
        always_update="\
VERSION;\
MODE_CATEGORY;\
DOWNLOAD_HISTORY_CATEGORY;\
SEARCH_RESULT_CATEGORY;\
RECENT_DOCUMENTS_CATEGORY;\
USER_APPLICATIONS;\
BROWSER;\
IPDF;\
APABIMOBI;\
IMAGEVIEWER;\
SETUP;\
PROFILES;\
EBA;\
EXTENSION_INFO;\
ICONS_GRAYSCALE_16"
I haven't tested it to see if it can clean up after itself if you add the missing SHELL entry and force a re-build.

iRex has tinkered with the fonts in 2.9.5. If you inspect /usr/share/fonts/truetype you'll see they've shuffled the structure. I've also found that the default system font has been changed (different font for my button bar clock.)

I successfully upgraded last night.

There was one strange hiccough following the firmware update where it downloaded ereader-input-method-0993-2950.tar.gz, decided it was corrupted and refused to install it. The installation continued automatically onto the next download, successfully installed that, then finished.

I pressed the button to reconnect for further downloads and this time, it re-downloaded ereader-input-method-0993-2950.tar.gz and successfully installed onto my iLiad.

Everything seems to be working.

Hey folks -

This may be a dumb question - but what the heck...

Will we be able to buy books via IDS? Or is this a situation where we'll have to download them to our PC's, and then port them over to the Iliad?

Many thanks!

we'll have to register our devices with mobipocket and buy them on their site then copy them across to the iliad.

p.s.
the mobipocket reader doesn't recognise my iliad (another poster claimed that theirs did), guess i'll have to input it manually to the mobi site.

I believe iRex forgot to put the right files in the root of the USB drive again.
If you back upped like they said, you can put the files back there, I guess.

i didn't backup anything as nothing important was on the internal flash, then again mobi reader didn't pick up my iliad before the new f/w ether.

Since the 2.9 update mobipocket has seen and synched with my iliad. Just the Iliad can't open the files.
