Girly seems to have perfected the art of looking 'abandoned' if she doesn't get her own way.

Here she has been moved from my lap and she isn't happy.Attachment 60360

Cheers.

If I read in a chair, Petrush wants to be in my lap. Usually he lies down so that I can rest the Kindle on him. When he insists on sitting up, because he likes to be able to lean back and lick my neck, I have to read over his shoulder. Every once in a while, he will push down the Kindle with his paw and lean in close to the screen, check what I'm reading, give me a dirty look and settle down again.
Pbooks are given a page by page inspection.

He also has an annoying habit of walking across the desk in front of the monitor and lying down across the keyboard.

I have to bribe him with a brushing to convince him to sit on one of his own beds.
I take it Mr. M is your husband?

Anybody have any special hunches why our cats do this, and do it much more when we are reading than at other times?

My own personal thought is that when we are reading and relaxed, we produce more steady brain wave activity in the 7-14 cycle frequency. (During active times we fluctuate all through the 5-30+ cycle range.) Cats normally remain in that 7-14 cycle frequency at all times, and so feel more akin to us when we are too. Same reason cats will usually want to sit on a person when they meditate. I'm just guessing here. Anyone else have an idea?

I think it has something to do with the face we make whilst reading. Particularly that we are not doing the cat threatening thing by looking at them with open eyes. My cat is worst when I am on the phone and to two people in particular, my mother and my best friend.

Mr M wants to sit on me the most when I am at the computer and when I am on the loo!
