Might as well give us all orange flight suits and put us in those upright rollercoaster seats and strap us in with 6-point harnesses...
Yes, her skirt is too short for that seat. And a skirt/dress that is longer looks like it may get creased. The only way really for women to sit in those seats is to wear pants.

I think it used to be that way in quite a few places, I know it was for sure here for awhile. my Mom grew up on the east coast and did a lot of train travel. she tells a story of having gone to the bathroom, washed her hands, and had taken her ring off to do so (which I never understood outside of a surgery suite. anyway...) I guess you shoved the sink "into the wall" when you finished with it to drain it. sure enough the ring was on the edge of the sink and out onto the tracks. and of course it was her inherited ring from her grandmother

Same in the UK, until all the old carriages have been replaced:

I used to have an hour plus journey to work - no toilets as it was decided to lock up all the toilets on London tube platforms.....ah the memories of too many pints and not 'going' before leaving the pub to catch the last tube home and then the excruciating pain of a full bladder whilst waiting for the bus...

Just for the distasteful record - same in Austria. (No surprise really. They're probably made by the same company, though a few dozen years ago...).

As for the seats: they do look weird. I'm constantly looking for a harness to keep you fixed in your seat.
For short travel time, I could see the use of those - not without a harness, though.
(And of course, not for me personally - I don't mind the idea behind the design, but I simply wouldn't fit in. Perhaps if you cut me in half and stack the halves atop each other...)
