Of course, smart publishers don't use DRM to start with.
Thanks. Unfortunate but understandable.

Ok - so now do I get the Sony 650 or the Pocketbook 602?
Does the Pocketbook have the instant-on like the Sony does?
That, and the speed and look of the screen are what draw me to the Sony. I know it has Pearl and the Pocketbook does not, but I have been quite happy with the screen on my old/original Cybook.
Also - warranty info? Could not find this easily on the site. I know others have had problems with Sony service, but if problems with Pocketbook it has to go back to Germany right?
Thanks.

What matters more to you? WiFi or touchscreen?
There's also lots of software reasons favoring Pocketbook, but the clearest differential is hardware and pricing.
(Of course, you could go for the 603 and have both. Plus 3G wireless.)

Neither one is that important, but the touchscreen wins over wifi for me.
More important is the instant-on ability. I also like the software choices on the Pocketbook.
Did not see pricing yet for the 603.

When will the pricing for the 903 be revealed? Is it going to be available in the US around the 15th of November as well?

The 602 of course

Warranty is for 2 years on all PocketBook devices. They have service centers all over the world.

about 24 hrs. The specs say "more than" 24 hrs. Of course heavy wifi use will decrease time between charges.

2 year warranty and they're getting 24 hours out of the IQ?

wow.

Sorry B&N. Maybe I'll get a Nook3.
Can't pass this up at this price (and it'll work for DJVU, which I run into quite a bit)

Forgive my skepticism but WiFi aside, LCD backlights are notoriously power hungry and the listed battery capacity, while generous for an eink device, is not *that* hefty.
24hrs sounds... overly ambitious for an Android Webpad/color reader...
On a device like that 6-8 hrs is far more common.

Still worth buying if the reader software is a port from the eink line, even at 6-8 hrs, but at 24hrs you should be holding press conferences and listing it in 64pt helvetica bold.

Just sayin' that kind of battery life would be a selling point to brag about not something hidden in the specsheet.

I bought my iRex from USA at it was almost 150 euro cheaper than the European model (I leave/work in Europe), I'm pretty sure that if I am going to buy a Pocketbook 903 I will do it from US, if the price difference would be at least 100 euro. Don't know the economical reasons, but it's crazy to pay almost a third of the price more for EXACTLY the same product.
Taxes. Blame your own governments. Most of Europe charges a VAT of about 20%, whereas online shopping in the US is (still) largely tax free. Generous child-support payments, early retirement, universal access to high-quality health care and tuition-free universities, etc., all have to be paid for somehow. Gasoline prices in Europe are about 4 times higher than in the US for the same reason. Everything has its trade-offs.

I don't think that's true. When I order something from the EU, I still have to pay additional taxes in my country (I am not in the EU, but in "the rest of Europe").

I think it has something to do with the gadget market. The competition is harsher in the US, so the prices are lower.

Sounds good. Now one last question which I still have not seen anywhere - do any of the Pocketbook devices have the sleep mode/instant on like the Sony? I tried a Sony for a few days - the prs600, sent it back because of the poor screen quality - and really liked this option. Thanks.

Can you provide the link?
The discussion in German forum regarding prices is quite ... heated.
It won't be as good through translate.google but I will bring popcorn anyway ...
