I've got a couple of solar chargers/batteries that I use for everything handheld (Phone, Books, DS) I Just leave it by the window and plug in to the device when I need it.
The batteries are both about the size of a smart phone (If a bit thicker) and while it takes a good 12 hours+ of sunlight to charge the internal batteries (3500mAh) it only takes a couple of hours to charge the handheld from the charger (Plus the chargers are small enough to take with me if I notice at the last minute that I'm low on power). And all this in sunny england ![]() Mind you I don't use the phone or DS that much so only need to charge them once every couple of weeks. |

![]() In Oz we have been threatened with a 65% increase in electrical charges over the next few years. According to the TV news, some poor souls have had their bills doubled already, even when using the same amounts of electricity as before. We have also been told according to a 'current affairs' program that the days of cheap electricity are over! We have had solar panels installed, to take advantage of the rebates now offered. I don't know how much longer that will be on offer. I am also one of those who feels that I would rather outlay the money now, and be prepared than to have to panic when things go wrong. Yesterday I received a parcel from DX with a solar 'thingy' (I love technical talk!) that will power my K3, SatNav, iPhone and some other goodies. As you can tell, I am also one of those who believes that solar flares are bound to affect the power grids some time in the future. On a lighter not - it can't hurt! ![]() Cheers. |

The new solar maximum is just around the corner (May 2013). If it hits badly, we will have other things to worry about than powering our Kindle.

![]() @Lady Fitzgerald - that's a thought! We do live in suburbia though, and I don't think that it would be allowed. We do have water tanks though. Cheers. ![]() |

Solar Power for Kindle, iPhone, etc.
At the risk of sounding like a salesman.... I recently bought a charger (includes solar) from Revolve Electronics for my iPhone that also works really well for my Kindle . Now, I don't have to organize my life around a dying battery because I can recharge anytime with the xeMini from AC, solar, the car, or even its internal backup battery . Chargers from other companies like Solio are fine I'm sure, but none of them do everything my xeMini does. I can even charge both my iPhone and Kindle at the same time!
I have been sooo happy and impressed with this product, I can't resist telling people about it. Really, you gotta check it out... www.revolveusa.com Last edited by TF-; 11-14-2010 at 12:00 PM. |

Do you have any idea how long it would take to fully recharge the charger with the sunlight trickle charge? Or is the sunlight trickle charge just for supplementing the AC charge? cheers |
