So why argue? I like both my NOOK & my Kindle3. And if I had more money to spend, I'd try a few other readers.

As for whether one is tied in or not is irrelevant for many of us. If I want amazon books I use my Kindle because I am not tech savvy & don't want to try & figure out how to strip DRM. Same for my NOOK. So technically I'm not tied into either store, but since I don't want to figure out how to strip DRM...I basically am. I don't soft root my e-readers either. I just want to read in the easiest way I can. So I saved my pennies (lots of pennies ) & bought both. I realize I'm lucky I can do that.

Amazon is usually at least price competitive with the other stores (if not out right cheaper than) and the device makes it so easy to buy.

Almost too easy, IMO. I downloaded two excerpts today and bought one of them when I was finished reading the excerpt. If I keep this up, we'll lose the house and the kids!

I have a Sony Reader, which I like a lot; but if I were buying a new reader today I'd get a K3. As it is, when my dad asked about a reader for Mom, I immediately suggested the Kindle.

I saw a Libre at Borders the other day, and at $119, it just didn't seem worth the price in comparison to what else is available. Apart from faster page turns, it's got no advantage (and a few disadvantages) compared to my 505 - I'd rather spend the extra $20 and get a Kindle - especially since I have free Kindle books that I read on my phone anyway.

As for the original question - I know the free Kindle books are making me think a K3 may just be worth it. Unfortunately I broke my glasses this morning, so you know what my next purchase is going to be.

Luckily I have a backup pair - even if they're single vision and not progressives. Also luckily, I work from home.

I don't think it is really arguing. More like occasionally overly forcefully responding to a post. It happens on both sides. Kind of like when two people who know each other are talking and one thinks the other is saying one thing when they are saying something subtly different.
