It would be nice if the sleep mode can be set to never or a interval specified by the user. 10 minutes is to soon. I read in my office when I have a free moment, and there is usally alot of distractions. By the time I'm able to read a little which can be 20 minutes later the book has already gone to sleep. It would also be nice to have the unit go to sleep on the last page read instead of posting a screensave picture. I have a Sony PRS-505 which has both of the above suggestion and I prefer the Sony implementation better. Plus I'm whearing out my power switch

Low power mode? I thought battery is only used when turning pages?

Nope. It is still active when you're reading even if you're not changing pages.

You could always just try ;debugOn and using ~disableScreensaver.

It also affects WiFi and 3G, both of which use a lot of power when in use.

A numerical indicator is placed in front of each of the screen savers, such as "0001_name of picture.png," so I would imagine they will show in numerical order. I chose the "random" option for mine.

I like my new screensavers, but I sort of miss the original dead authors screensavers, at least some of them. I thought about adding them to the screensaver folder generated by the hack, but I can't seem to find where these are stored on the Kindle - or does the hack somehow delete the original files?

The Kindle is a computer. As with any other computer, the CPU, RAM, etc, use power.

Actually it's the E-Ink display module that only requires power when turning pages.

The hack creates a folder called "backup" (if I recall correctly) You can look there for the original pictures. (They also still exist on the OS portion of the device).

Thank you Bill Lumburgh. I will play with the debugging option. A 10 minute sleep time is a bit excessive (IMO), but if the device must go to sleep just leave the last page read on the screen so that if I only have a chance to read a single page I don't have to turn the device on to get back to the book, this should be a option as well. Turning the unit on 10 minutes later will probably negate any power savings since the device has to refresh the screen to resume the book. I understand that the device is never really off unless a shutdown is invoked by the user, since the device check for news, magazines, etc unless the radios are turned off. My radios are normally off unless tasked specifically by me to download a book, etc. Heck 10 minutes is how long it would take for me to explain the device to someone at my local coffee shop.

I also would like the option to have it remain on the page being read instead of pushing the ugly dead...

If they were really certain that most users are stupid and cannot resize and format the pictures; they could add something to the manage my Kindle page were you would upload the pictures you wish to use for a screen saver.

I agree. I haven't used the music player feature for serious listening - just experimentation - but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound, considering how thin those speakers must be.

And don't forget the K3 also has a headphone jack, if you don't want to use the speakers.

As for the screensaver images, I think they're pretty classy. Though being able to add my own would be cool, I don't think it's worth going through the trouble of hacking/jailbreaking the Kindle just to do it.

I agree. What I can't find anywhere is a list identifying the pictures that don't have their own labels. Like, who's the guy in the room with the lion and the lamb and so on?

Like others here, I've emailed the feedback address asking for the added functionality, but just got a standard "Thanks for your feedback, I've passed it on to the team" type response.

Pictures of dead authors and ancient texts will draw conversation and elsewhere - i think it's marketing along with all the key locking and low power answers ...
