I'm buying books from the Kobo store at the moment, so I've just added them with the Kobo app and haven't really bothered trying to fix it yet, so I have no idea how many others have had the same problem.
@MeganJoan

Can you also post your device debug information from Calibre so Kovid can review it?

Oops looks like on my first try I posted the disconnected one twice. Sorry, kovid! (I blame it on the late hour )

I was very grateful for the Connect/Share button. Once I understood that I could use it to add content, my stress level went down considerably.
Great news about support in the next release. I'm lost without Calibre!

Kovid has released the new version so the wifi version should be recognized now.

Yup. looks great. Can access main memory as well as the card slot on the Kobo Wireless.

Fantastic responsiveness on this issue. ...as well as all of the other fixes/enhancements listed!

Thank-you!

I have a Kobo Wifi (and an original Kobo) and when I try the new version of Calibre it pops up the device icon. When I select it and choose view books on the device it tries to connect but then gives this error:

I am cannot see where to get the USB debugging info with my version of Calibre. I believe I have 0.7.26 which I downloaded last weekend.

Wifi kobo or the original? If it the original you probably need to reset your database by following the sticky in the kobo forum.

For the wifi you probably need to use the factory reset on the device to recreate the database.

I will try to test it tonight but the last time I tried it worked fine. Please make sure you safetly remove the device and don't just unplug it...

Thanks Timlegge. I actually did a reset on my Kobo Wifi and it is being recognized now. PDFs are recognized and appear under Documents on the device now when they didn't before. Now to just get magazine subscriptions to appear and I'll be happy. :-)

Thanks for the help and the most useful e-reader product on the Net to-date!

ok - it's an old thread but I have same problem today connecting a new Kobo for 1st time.
it is a KObo wifi model direct from WH Smiths.
calibre can't see it, windows can, i can manually brose to kobo on the send to disk option so why no recognition ?

It would help if you posted here the device detection log so that we we can see what is happening. Have you followed the steps outlined in the User manual (http://calibre-ebook.com/user_manual...etected-by-app) - the last of which is the one to get the log?
