Hm, since there's nobody else who seems to have the trouble, it's probably a bug on my end. What parts of Ubuntu might be causing the error that I could look into? Graphics drivers, or what? I'd like to solve this problem but I'm not sure which questions I should be asking.

Huh, it seems the problem was tied to the New Wave theme and doesn't show up with any of the others. Please disregard the above.

I seem to have an issue. The 64bit version installs and works fine but not he 32bit version.

Running Linux Mint KDE edition(Kubuntu) with the kubuntu backports so running the latest kde stuff.

the 2.4 version runs fine and I have been suing but thought i would try 3.0rc2 and after installing it trying to run it always segfaults right off. I mean there is basically no other output when running it from the shell.

Thanks.

Um... If your Linux system is 64 bit, AFAIK only the x64 version of Sigil will then work on it, outside of special configurations. x64 Windows has direct support for running x86 applications, but the same is not true for x64 Linux, by default.

It's just a matter of installing the required 32bit libs; for testing's sake I installed the 32bit sigil rpm from the Mandriva repos on my 64bit installation, and it loads OK.

The same with the x86 .bin file you offer, but even less 32bit packages from the repos are required since you bundle libqt* and libphonon*.

I'm aware of this, I'm just not sure if webmedic is.

Yes, I figured you do know that (you're a dev after all) after I posted; I can blame that one on being a bit sleepy.

Yup that would be true accept I'm using the 64bit version on a 64bit machine and the 32bit version on a 32bit machine.

The 64bit version works on the 64bit machine but the 32bit version does not work on the 32bit machine. The 32bit version immediately segfaults.

And after last night dealing with quite a few large files I would have to wait for oh maybe 30 minutes or more to do anything with the epub I was editing since there are speed enhancements it would sure be nice to have this working on 32bit Ubuntu linux based architectures.

32bit Sigil works just fine on the Ubuntu 10.04 32bit machine I have access too. Must be something on your end.

Try building from source. It's easy. You'll need Qt 4.7; you can get precompiled binaries from Nokia's Qt SDK here (choose LGPL).

Possibly I'm running qt 4.7 already on my system as well the latest kde so maybe it's just not playing nice.

Possibly it's picking up the system libs instead of the ones included which may be causing an issue.

I have not run gdb or strace or anything like that on it yet.

It might be possible for me to do a bash script that adds the current path to the environment variables for the libs path and then run Sigil also.

sigil.sh (which you should be using already) does exactly that.

That would then be your problem. Use the shell script, all the shortcuts the installer makes call it. You're not supposed to call the executable directly.

Ok calling it with the shell script does not actually segfault sorry the actual error is "illegal operation". It's no issue though as I can go ahead and compile it. Or for now I have just been rolling it back to 2.4 and using that on my 32 bit machine and using 3.0 on my 64bit machine.

Thanks for the nice piece of software. It's a fair bit on the slow side when saving and moving from file to file with the 7meg epub I'm working on but thats still 30-40 megs uncompressed so it's quite a bit of info.
