I ordered the cheap reversible orange-and-lime case from ebay. I love neoprene, it offers the protection I need without bulk or weight. And I'm a sucker for neon!
I definitely fall into the "why spend a fortune on a case" camp, as well as the "the case should not double the weight of the device" camp. You only need a case if you're carrying it around, and if you're carrying it around, why would you want to make it so heavy? The main purpose of my case is protection from scratches, and a cheap neoprene case will do that at least as well as a leather folding case, probably better because there's no gap for coins and pens to get caught in. |

![]() Mine isn't neoprene, and I don't know if I'll read with the Kindle in it or not (the Kindle only arrived today, and is still charging), but we'll see. It's light, and it should protect it from scratches, which is what matters to me. Of course, if other people want to spend money on very fancy cases, that's entirely up to them. ![]() |

I marked the more expensive cover because I use an Oberon.
First, it gives me something solid to grasp while reading for long periods. I fold the cover back and put two fingers between the front and back cover, two fingers under the covers and my thumb on the Kindle bizel. Or I hold it open like a hard cover book. Second, it gives me something solid to attach a powerful book light to, something I do every night. Third, I think it's attractive. It makes me proud to show it. Fourth, with the Oberon cover my Kindle can't be mistaken for anything but a "real" book even to casual onlookers. Fifth, the Oberons are sturdy. I've used less expensive covers on other book readers in the past only to have them start falling apart within a year. The Oberon cover on my Sony is soldiering on long after other brands I've used in the past failed. Since I intend to keep the Kindle (why else get an extended warranty?) having to replace a cheaper cover later erodes the cost savings of a cheaper cover. Finally, the Oberon cover personalizes my Kindle. I spent a long time deciding on the design and color I wanted. The surface even feels good in my hand. My Kindle cover was more expensive but for these reasons I feel that for me it represents a reasonable value for the money. |

I'm currently using the Amazon cover on my K3 since I had to have something before I left on vacation on 9/4. I'm also waiting for the M-Edge Latitude Jacket I won in a contest on the M-Edge Facebook page. I like the Amazon cover a lot so I decided to keep that for use around the house while the Latitude Jacket will be used for more protection when my Kindle leaves the house.

I think this style of cover, cheap or expensive, makes the Kindle look like a notebook or a day planner. I seriously doubt most people think "book" when they see it.

Nevermind why do they need to recognize it as a "real" book? Its not like using a Kindle should be ambaressing or anthing. But oh well, to each his own.

At the moment I keep mine in the box it came in!
I have just ordered a neoprene case from Cellapod for £6.99 (via amazon.co.uk) as they are now back in stock! Hopefully it will be here by the middle of the week. |

Has anyone bought the (black) Belkin Grip Kindle Sleeve or the Belkin Vue Kindle Sleeve ?
Are they sturdy enough to protect the K3 sufficiently, without being too heavy ? |

I got the Kindle cover with light. The light works better than I thought it would, and retracts completely when not in use. The case itself is well padded without being too heavy or bulky, giving reasonable knock and bump protection. It also provides enhanced grip, since the leather is a pebbled texture. No regrets for that purchase.

I originally purchased the Franklin cover with light for cheap for my generation 2 kindle. Managed to break one of the securing tabs two days after I got it, and wasn't a huge fan of the cover design.
Just recently bought the Octovo cover, it's light, holds the kindle well, and was half off. http://www.amazon.com/OCTOVO-Leather...6080781&sr=1-2 |

I had been using mine without anything (and not using it without anything), but the cat hair it attracts has been driving me crazy, so I went and looked at covers at Target today.
They didn't have much of a selection and everything was about as heavy as the kindle itself. I wasn't real impressed by the sleeve they had (which was for the K2 anyway and still full price). So I just ended up buying a 6x9 bubble mailer and will use that (wrapped in duct-tape) as a sleeve. |
