It bugs me when every book description that has ever had a movie adaption starts with, "Now a major motion picture." That still tells me nothing about the book! But, what, I'm just gonna decide I'll buy the book with no other details based purely on the notion that someone thought the book was work making into a movie I've never heard of?

What bugs me is when a book description has so much rubbish in it, by the time I get to the proper description, there is hardly any description and what's there is cut-off.

Worse, it's all marketing guff... If you can't tell me what the book is about, I'm not clicking into a preview.

Or a mass of "reviews" that turn out to be puffery for the author's other book(s). I don't care if their last 2 books belonged on a you must read this before you die list.

Another thing I don't like is an awful cover. If the cover does not look good and it's an author I've not read before, I'll pass on by.

Related: One thing I dislike about a cover is if it spoils the book. As an example: DC Comics did a trade paperback of The Great Darkness Saga in Legion of Super-Heroes. In the monthly comic form the story was told over several months, leading to the reveal of the villain who was a big surprise. However, in the trade paperback the cover tells you exactly who the villain was, ruining the surprise.

I'll defend that for indie publishers who publish the work of authors you likely haven't heard of. I personally don't read that stuff. But I can understand why they include it and do think it can be of value to a reader discovering new authors.

For some indies? Possibly. Though what I said was "from the same publisher".
