Check out videohelp.com for an extensive list of DVD players with notes on which ones are region free, "VCR Friendly" (no Macrovision or it can be turned off), or have hidden menus or secret codes to temporarily or permanently disable region codes.

There's software to make computers ignore region codes or your DVD drive may have a firmware that's been modified to disable it.

AFAIK, New Zealand still bans the sale of any DVD player or computer drive that is NOT region free.

I have too, yesterday. Be kind, rewind.

Finished Dust few days ago. And then jumped into Ready Player One and finished that yesterday. Have to agree about it being a good book. Have to disagree that it is more enjoyable than Skin Game - it is different. A book in the middle of a great series is somehow not comparable to a standalone finished story. I enjoyed both very much.

A few things I did not like about Ready Player One:
Spoiler:
  • start of level 2 is a bit over the top - going from poor to way too rich
  • some time inconsistences - one time he been in his appartment for six months, than it was a year ago since he cleared the first gate. Wade left right after the trailer blew up and it only took a few days to Columbus. A timeline with events and exact dates might have helped keeping all passed times straight?
  • no download link for all the emulators and games mentioned.

I was browsing through the earlier posts in this thread and came across some reading recommendations for Ben Aaronovitch's Peter Grant series. I just started the first one and I'm really enjoying it, although I occasionally need a Brit to Yank translation! If you haven't tried it, I recommend it for urban fantasy fans.
