During my final walk of the evening I heard a suburban symphony. My neighborhood is very quiet and secluded, but geographically very close to I-40 -- the main drag to get anywhere in central NC. You can hear the heavy rush hour traffic as background white noise morning & night. And the sirens when there are accidents - you get used to it.

As I neared home, there was first the fire truck siren - first responders (the fire house is 5 blocks from my house) heading out towards I-40. This was followed by ambulance and police sirens - probably a pile up at an exit ramp. Then I heard a top note to all these sirens -- had to stand still and listen hard - and realized that it was our resident Canada geese pairs flying overhead from Jordan Lake to the small neighborhood lake where they shelter at night. The geese calls seamlessly blended into the multiple sirens.
