For the most part we are using a Keurig that was a retirement gift last summer. We also have a Bodum press but don't use it that often since the time to grind the beans, heat the water, etc. is not worth the improvement in the coffee.

Looking at walking routes for tomorrow. The weather's going to be great; sunny and warm. So I've decided to go to a nature park an hour by public transport away and have a nice walk, with lunch afterwards. It's been a while since I've been on a proper walk, so I don't want it to be too long, but it's fairly even terrain so that's nice for a first spring walk.
Today I'm heading into the city center. I'm going to visit one of the museums, get refill for a prescription and drop something off at an old neighbour. I'm also getting something to drink and a snack for tomorrow's walk; if the weather is really good I might take an extended break during the walk to sit and read for while. |

I'm looking at real estate listings and considering the joy of moving in my future. Sadly our strata complex is too close to the Skytrain station so we have developers who want to purchase the entire complex for a very significant amount over the amount for which the individual homes would sell. Enough of the inhabitants of the complex are willing to take an offer and so, it appears the strata will be wound down. The remaining questions are how much the final offer will be, when the process will be completed and how long after completion will we be able to remain in our homes. The best guess is a minimum of 6 months to a couple of years after completion depending on how long the approvals process delays the start of construction.
OTOH, it was a bit of fun watching two of my neighbours going ballistic since they hadn't realized that the province had changed the rules on winding down a strata back in 2016. Up to that time, you needed unanimous consent while after, you only needed 80% of owners. Last edited by DNSB; 03-19-2024 at 02:49 PM. |

Are you looking locally, or further afield? Good luck anyway.

We are looking locally but given the time frame, we are more getting reacquainted with what is available and pricing. We are going to hit a few open houses over the next while. Our preference is to wait until the wind down is closed so we have the money on hand and then start looking more seriously in the time before the close and the start of construction. During that time, there will be no rent, no strata fees, no taxes, etc. as the development company will be acting as the owner/landlord.

Slowly waking up this Sunday morning. Later this afternoon we're going to my parents and see if there is anything we can still help with (unpacking, taking things to their storage, etc).
My sister and I will also propose that instead of coming each Sunday that once a month we come on Friday evening instead. My father is a picky eater so my mom doesn't get to eat certain things when it's just the two of them (for instance lasagna, pizza, cheese fondue, greek). Friday is my father's billiards night, so he can eat something he likes early and my sister and I can get/make something my mother likes. |

Waiting for the call for my book to come in at my local indie bookstore:
The Letters of Emily Dickinson edited by Cristanne Miller and Domhnall Mitchell - the first new edition of her letters in more than 60 years and the first since any sort of real, comprehensive biography of her was compiled. I love letters and I can't wait to get my hands on it. |

I feel as though I miss you! We were all so involved in closing the store, selling the store/building, buying the new apartment...wowzers! So, how did the "switch Sunday to Friday" suggestion go, ladies? (Happily, one of my minions is going to move away from the city in which she now resides, here in the USA and is looking for a new town/city to move to. That lets me occupy my "new house" brain adequately, for the nonce. Admittedly, we're only in the "what's a good new place to go" stage, versus the "we need a house that has X s.f. and..." stage, but, hey...I am not normally a person who cares for shopping for anything, truly, but I do like looking at houses!) My parents are settling in. They're still waiting for a bunch of furniture and they have to go shopping for light fixtures and a coffee table. The cats are also settling in well. My sister and I are now at the stage where we're going through our things and see what will fit in the new house, and for the things that won't fit we have to decide what we're throwing away, what we're donating and what we're putting up online to give away for free (big things that won't fit in my sister's car). This afternoon we're heading for my sister's garage and hopefully finish sorting that stuff and afterwards we're going to pick up a couple of boxes of dvds/cds/book from my storage unit to sort through next week.
