mldavis2: That sounds wonderful. There was a coffee house in the town I went to graduate school which roasted the beans in the store. It smelled wonderful and was the only place I would get coffee.

Yes, tea has it's health benefits.

But has anyone else tried river water? Depending on where you get it, river water can be very good for a diet.

Eat anything you want and flush it down with a large glass of river water. A guaranteed way to lose weight.

Make sure the glass you drink it from is clean, though! It really affects the taste...

All my local grocery stores have stopped selling loose black tea.

Check out Whole Foods and World Market. Or you could look online. I order mainly from Tea Gschwendner and Teavana. Both offer free shipping is you spend $50 or more, which for me is never a problem. I try and aim for quarterly tea refills.

Okay, I may give in and try loose tea, but I refuse to fool with this exact temperature thing. Do you hear me? I refuse! I will heat my water in my electric kettle, as usual.

Going shopping this afternoon anyway. Will see what I can find...

ummm hmmm. I can totally see you not fooling with the water temperature thing. Yup. I can totally see that.

Most grocery stores sell meat thermometers. Buy one and label it "tea".

I would try and buy loose leaf that is close to the bagged tea that you like. You know the flavors that you like so it is a good starting place.

I would look in an Indian food store if there was one closer. The Chinese ones didn't have anything from India as expected.

My Whole Foods didn't have anything either. Surprising.

Well dear,

I have a gadget that I got from Ikea for few bucks that doubles as timer and thermometers. It has a long metal thread and a long pointy head. So that I can put it in a piece of meat roasting in the oven.

I used few times to see how hot became the water after so many minutes in my MW. And that's it. But look, tea became so good but so good and for really very little money. With just a bit of care, for the clean cups and those things.

Of course having given up smoking and boozing is making me more sensitive ...
By the way, i am finding coffee less interesting, except those tight espressos that I have after meals with Nespresso. Those are still quite satisfying.

As a matter of fact I am thinking of going back to milling it myself (that makes some difference) and maybe roasting it, like my grandparents were doing. I can get the green coffee in Milano, easy.

This is a great thread, I think.
