Well I read the prologue and was hooked by it (my all-time favorite is Crowther & Woods' Colossal Cave Adventure, a text-based game)! I promised myself that before I read the rest of it I'll clean up my current mess (several partially read books).

Wow. Ready Player One does look interesting. I like that it's a standalone, and not part of a series (yet?).

*Added to my long wishlist*

Edit: Added Texas Gothic to my wishlist as well. This thread is dangerous!

I've read Ready Player One. If you know enough about the 80s, you'll love it. It's a very good book and a very easy read.

Yeah, Ready Player One does sound interesting as well - and not expensive at 3.99 for Kindle.

Little warning for Texas Gothic - it may be borderline YA. If you don't mind the occasional college kid, then it is fine. :P

Yeah, I figure it's a YA paranormal. It's no problem for me, as long as the kids aren't the witless and/or whiny type.

Witless and whiny? Give me a bad example. The last two YA books I read were Hunger Games trilogy and Divergent Trilogy. On each I would say the age of the people only matters when you actively remember. They could have easily been older.

Ahh..I haven't read Hunger Games (I just watch the movies), but I've read Divergent Trilogy. It certainly was a great read. (But I don't like the ending. )

I haven't read a lot of YA books, but from the few that I've read, there are some that don't exactly sit well with me:
  • Meg Cabot's The Mediator series. The heroine - who's a mediator that can communicate with ghosts - is so full of herself that I find it rather intolerable. If not for the story and other more lovable characters, I probably would have given it up after the first book. I read the first book of another series, Abandon, and had the similar issue with the heroine again, so I didn't bother to read the rest of the trilogy.
  • James Patterson's Maximum Ride series. It's about a bunch of genetic mutated kids. I don't really understand why the heroine has to feel the fate of the entire world lies on her and her companions' shoulders alone. Besides, I don't like how the story ends.
    Spoiler:
There's supposed to be an apocalypse, but we didn't get to see the details of how it plays out. It just happened when we're holed away with the heroine (or someone else? I don't remember) because of the first person POV.

These characters keep on blabbing about their problems (because we're put into their heads ), and that the world can't survive without them doing something. If they want to solve a problem, just go ahead and do it. They don't need to make it sound like they have to do it because they don't think anyone else can handle it.

Well, I read these books a few years ago, so I'm not sure if I'll still feel the same if I read them again. But it's another issue whether or not I would like to read them again. Lol.

Sorry but English isn't my first language, so I always have problems expressing myself. I hope you won't get too confused reading what I'm trying to say.
