One other thing I've noticed: With the new UI, looking in the collections tab, there are 3 permanent collections (new books, new periodicals, and purchased books, i think) that seem to automatically add books that meet the criteria of the collection, sort of like a smart playlist in iTunes. Interestingly, none of the books I have downloaded from the sony bookstore appear in the purchased books collection. This is far from a big problem, but it got me wondering how these collections work. Do they look at the metadata of the epub file (There's no metadata entry for "purchased")? And does anyone know if it's possible to create your own "smart" collections?

As Sony has been implementing local zone management system, local
company for each area (country) manages own sales, planning,
production and servicing etc in their operations. Therefore we do
not have the information of overeseas model PRS-650.

For your information, we do not know it would be an equivalent model,
but we are going to release eBook Reader in Japan in 2010 or later.

However, the details such as the release time, how to offer contents,
sales system, etc...are undecided at present. Please wait for the
announcement on our homepage.

Don't know if this is buy.com's original picture but definitely not the best way to advertize a reading device.

You won't be able to access all the books in the sony store, Canadian publishers have a different deal with sony and not all the books are available. You can use the Kobo bookstore, which has a better selection for Canadian consumers and are downloadable to the Sony ereaders.

Books in the Sony store are based on location of computer trying to buy the books and not on location where reader was purchased. As long as the OP is buying books in the US, there should be no problems with using a reader from Canada.

My mistake, did not notice the part about being in the US.

Went to order from Sony Canada, but it required a Canadian mailing address.
I then decided to go to Abt Electronics website and ordered a black one. surprised they had them in stock

I've called SonyStyle in Spain and I've been told that they don't plan to sell ebook until Christmas (at least), so I'm going to buy the one at pixmania.es for 279€, which will have it available starting from 04/10 (tomorrow).

I'm pretty sure that, as for most other things, pixmania will bring it from France, so I'm just wondering what would happen with the manufacturer warranty of Sony if I have an ebook which does not belong to Spanish section of Sony.

Of course, the store (pixmania) is forced by law to provide me 2 years warranty (using manufacturer or not), so it shouldn't be a big issue, but I'm worried about having to send it to France or other country in case something goes wrong with it.

Any experience with Sony warranty when you have a product from another country?

Thanks.

DO NOT BUY FROM PIXMANIA. I don't think I can say it any clearer than that

They do not honor any laws/promises regarding warranty, in fact they don't even reply to support queries most of the time. My father bought a cell phone and a camera from them (good brands), both of which needed warranty repairs (clear-cut cases). Pixmania wouldn't have anything to do with it at all. Buy from them at your own risk.
