Yes, it won't be entirely cheap once it is all published (99 cents times 7 chapters plus the first one free), but for a graphic novel, that's actually on the lower end (it's not Watchman, of course, but used copies of this are still in the $18-20 range). The first chapter was 24 pages (they had the PDF up free for a bit) and it appears each chapter will be on the website free for a short period (I either missed chapt 2 or it hasn't hit yet), according to his blog entry on chapter 3. He does appear to have a number of other books out (on paper) and a couple of short stories (on Kindle for 99 cents or free at Smashwords).

As for the detective's sense of time - seems more like his is in two universes, so far. Is one the dream state? Which one? Or is he moving between as the effects of the tumor hit?

I was digging through Amazon's recommendation thing and found a few self-published books under $1

Added

A Treasured Threat by Tim K. Scott - $0.99 [Suspense]

Quote:
A Treasured Threat is a literary fiction with strong characters and well defined relationships. When it was written, it was not intended for a Christian reader but does has a Biblical plot. The central character, a retired Naval Commander and salvage diver, operates a SCUBA diving charter and is a part-time treasure hunter. A lead from an old navy buddy guides him and his crew to the discovery of an Old Testament artifact. Despite a multitude of tragic events that has surrounded the relic, he refuses to acknowledge the obvious destructive power it possesses. A Treasured Threat makes use of many actual ancient and contemporary events that most readers can relate to. Full of wit, humor and drama, A Treasured Threat will hold the readers' attention until its unexpected, high impact conclusion.
Homefront by Kristen J. Tsetsi - $0.99 [Contemporary Fiction]

Quote:
You've read, or you've seen in movies or on TV, the soldiers' story. This is not their story. This is the story of the forgotten others.

"Missing" and "worry" do nothing to capture the emotions felt by those left waiting. Yellow ribbons and baked cookies are the media's representation, not real life. 'Homefront''s Mia, a young woman left behind at the start of the Iraq war, forces you to experience the passionate glee and anxiety, the surreal and the real, the drunk and the sober, of waiting for a loved one to survive war from her very private, very intimate perspective.

You are in her heart. You are in her mind.
The Takers: Book One of the Oz Chronicles by R.W. Ridley - $0.99 [Horror]

Quote:
Never say their name! If you do, they will find you! If they find you, they will eat you!

Thirteen-year-old Oz Griffin knows it's his fault that the Takers are eating everyone in sight. He also knows that a comic book written by a neighborhood boy is the key to defeating them. But every time he and his band of survivors try to read the comic book, the Takers draw closer. Can they get to the end of the story before the Takers devour them?
The Nine Lives of Clemenza by Holly Christine -$1 [Fiction Philosophy]

Quote:
If you were able to choose what form of life you would live, what would you be? The Nine Lives of Clemenza explores the realms of spirituality and reincarnation. It introduces the possibility that as complex souls, we choose our lives, thus giving us the ultimate capability of free will. Clemenza starts out as a new soul in heaven, contemplating what form of life she will take to begin her journey. God grants each new soul nine lives, provided they bring back a moral lesson learned. Clemenza is diverse in her choices, exploring every facet of existence from air to the northern lights to a human being. Roles are reversed and souls intertwine during Clemenza's many lives, as she learns the meaning and importance of pain, grief, loss, love and passion.

Amazon's first (new) free book of fall:

Paradox I, by Rosemary Laurey and J.C. Wilder, is one of Samhain's Duet series, each of which contain two stories. Both of these come with warnings for their explicit content. This one is scheduled to be free from 9/21/2009 to 10/31/2009.

Fly With A Dragon by Rosemary Laurey

A virgin sacrifice, a not-so ravening dragon and a happy ever after.

Selected as the virgin sacrifice to the ravening dragon, Myfanwy awaits as Arragh, the fiery Dragon of Calder Bala, approaches across the sacred grove.

But Arragh comes not to destroy. Instead he carries Myfanwy off to his domain in the far mountains, and a fate far, far better than death.

Warning, this title contains: unusual and pretty much impossible
Spoiler:
explicit sex.

Heart of the Raven by J.C. Wilder

Sold into slavery to an Overseer of the Realm, Dani is determined to win her freedom and make sure her heart is possessed by no man.

For Haaken, time is running out. A family curse already condemns him to the form of the Raven and when he can find the one woman meant for him, only then will he be free.

Too bad for both of them that this woman is determined to belong to no one...

Warning, this title contains:
Spoiler:
HOT, explicit sex.

Two new freebies

According to Jane by Marilyn Brant (pre-order)---(optimized for Kindle DX)...

http://www.amazon.com/According-To-J...3575294&sr=1-1

Quote:
Product Description
In Marilyn Brant's smart, wildly inventive debut, one woman in search of herself receives advice from the ultimate expert in matters of the heart. . .

It begins one day in sophomore English class, just as Ellie Barnett's teacher is assigning Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. From nowhere comes a quiet "tsk" of displeasure. The target: Sam Blaine, the cute bad boy who's teasing Ellie mercilessly, just as he has since kindergarten. Entirely unbidden, as Jane might say, the author's ghost has taken up residence in Ellie's mind, and seems determined to stay there.

Jane's wise and witty advice guides Ellie through the hell of adolescence and beyond, serving as the voice she trusts, usually far more than her own. Years and boyfriends come and go--sometimes a little too quickly, sometimes not nearly fast enough. But Jane's counsel is constant, and on the subject of Sam, quite insistent. Stay away, Jane demands. He is your Mr. Wickham.

Still, everyone has something to learn about love--perhaps even Jane herself. And lately, the voice in Ellie's head is being drowned out by another, urging her to look beyond everything she thought she knew and seek out her very own, very unexpected, happy ending. . .

"A warm, witty and charmingly original story." --Susan Wiggs, New York Times bestselling author

"An engaging read for all who have been through the long, dark, dating wars, and still believe there's sunshine, and a Mr. Darcy, at the end of the tunnel." --Cathy Lamb, author of Henry's Sisters

"This is a must-read for Austen lovers as well as for all who believe in the possibility of a happily-ever-after ending." --Holly Chamberlin, author of One Week In December

It's strange that "According to Jane" is already available on the Sony site with a publishing date of Sept. 21 but it's a pre-order for the Kindle with an Oct. 1 release date.

Hi again, Sporadic! This is the most awesome Kindle bargain thread there is on the net! Thanks so much for starting it and keeping it up to date constantly. YOU ROCK!!

I thought I saw these on the thread previously (?), perhaps I was mistaken, or perhaps they were removed cuz the price went up (but is now down again?), or for another reason (?). Anyhooooooo... (oh, btw, apparently I can't provide a good link, I think I know why, but no need to go into it here. So, I'm sorry about that. Please forgive!)

Wysard -and- its sequel, Lord Brother by Carolyn Kephart
both are $0.99 each

Cheers,
Xia

ETA: I am sorry for the brief brain lapse, but I also meant to mention this one in my post above:
Dragon Ring by Lettie Prell for $0.99
I don't know a thing about it, but I came across it during my bi-weekly Kindle bargain hunt and thought it might be worth mentioning?

The Keeper by Sarah Lanagan
http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-The-ebo...14/ref=ed_oe_k
Quote:
From Publishers Weekly
In her assured but overstuffed horror debut, Langan lovingly crafts the struggling town of Bedford, Maine, its unlucky inhabitants and the troubling history of the town's shuttered paper mill, before tearing it all to bloody pieces. Bedford is haunted by the beautiful Susan Marley, a damaged young woman who wanders the streets and never speaks a word, stirring "feeling[s] of something undone, something quite wrong, at the sight of her." Those feelings are strongest in Susan's maladjusted little sister, Liz, wracked with guilt over Susan's fate; their mother, who refuses to acknowledge her wayward daughter's existence; and alcoholic high school teacher Paul Martin, who once had an affair with Susan. Susan's fall to her death in the final, rain-soaked days of winter triggers a series of events that bring the buried secrets of the town to terrifying reality—people and animals rise from the dead, and a spirit of homicidal rage grips the living. Fighting to survive, Langan's characters come brilliantly to life, their inner conflicts rendered in sharp but exhausting detail at once expansive and constricting, slowing the narrative to a crawl just before it whips into frenzied, graphic violence. This is horror on a big scale, akin to the more ambitious work of Stephen King, and though Langan's enormous imagination can slow her narrative, this effective debut promises great things to come. Product Description

Some believe Bedford, Maine, is cursed. Its bloody past, endless rain, and the decay of its downtown portend a hopeless future. With the death of its paper mill, Bedford's unemployed residents soon find themselves with far too much time to dwell on thoughts of Susan Marley. Once the local beauty, she's now the local whore. Silently prowling the muddy streets, she watches eerily from the shadows, waiting for . . . something. And haunting the sleep of everyone in town with monstrous visions of violence and horror.

Those who are able will leave Bedford before the darkness fully ascends. But those who are trapped here—from Susan Marley's long-suffering mother and younger sister to her guilt-ridden, alcoholic ex-lover to the destitute and faithless with nowhere else to go—will soon know the fullest and most terrible meaning of nightmare.
