Bingo. The second lady said that all that she needed it for was to watch videos. I couldn't see the advantage, but I kept my mouth shut lest she change her mind, and I ended up still stuck with the TV! No worries now!

There are definitely a lot of subpar sellers on Amazon. I imagine Amazon tries to weed them out over time, but maybe not. It probably takes a lot of complaints before they begin the process of terminating any association with them. I bet some of those subpar sellers are simply guilty of having no scruples. Others might just get overwhelmed by the number of orders they receive and don’t have the resources and/or stock to fill them. And any other of numerous reasons can cause them to be bad vendors even if they are trying to be good vendors. I try to only buy from 3rd party sellers if Amazon is going to deliver the item. I trust Amazon to know what they have in stock and to get it to me in a timely fashion and to make it right if the item isn’t good. Amazon treats the 3rd party goods that they stock in their warehouses like it was their own products, so you have a better chance of getting an acceptable resolution if their is a problem.

I don't remember if I mentioned the issue, but the toilet leaks. If it's leaking on the outside, I won't need the gaskets. However, it is possible that it is leaking from the inside, and running down the tubing that goes up to the bowl. If that's the case, I'll probably need to replace the innards; but, it may just need a gasket, and I'll probably go the lazy way out, and just replace it for now.

I have a second toilet, and I live alone, so having just one working toilet is no big deal. Unless it goes out, then I'll be making a trip to the big-box (and no, I don't mean an outhouse. Although that would solve the problem . . . .)

Friends of mine put a trailer on their property and lived in it while their house was being built. Someone broke into the trailer and stole jewelry and then set the place on fire. They decided to move into the barn while the house was finished. They built an outhouse where the trailer had been. It was the only outhouse I have ever seen with a flush toilet. Only in the South.
It is still their and still works.

At least you can kill two birds with one stone and use the store's toilet while you're there. Should be easier to fix your toilet when you don't need to use it desperately.

Yup, I gave my last two CRT sets away to a group like that. The dude came a picked them up from me. I almost kept one for myself for gaming. Old light gun games only work on CRTs and I love me some Time Crisis on the PSOne.

Indeed, though I had heard that plasma colors faded after some years. Have you seen this to be true?

I'm pretty sure it would do nothing but sit at the setup screen, since IIRC there is no way to even select what channels (streaming services) you want to use with out an account.

It doesn't matter if Roku goes away. Their servers hold no content to these channels. You create an account with each paid service and can stream directly if you like to a device, or cast to your TV, or use the Roku streaming device. You don't create an account for a free service, some may have a website where you can stream without creating an account.

The advantage of any streaming device like Roku or Chromecast is that they aggregate free/paid channels that you can select from. They provide you a way (just like a cable provider) to select services and can choose to watch from those you want to use/pay for. Unlike cable, what you pay for is your choice.

I just have a personal policy of not opening accounts without a good reason. For me, there is no good reason for me to open a Roku account. I would be perfectly fine with signing up for third party streaming myself. I understand the appeal of letting Roku take care of it, but do not want that myself.

It's not a question of content, it's a question of whether or not the devices need to check in with Roku to validate the active account or otherwise "phone home" in some way to function.

Unless that "add on device" is a computer. Hook up a laptop to the HDMI port and manage everything yourself. I did it that way for a while.
