If you are coming from a 6" Oasis, the buttons are an improvement, because they are wider and more pleasent to press. The buttons are more audible, but personally I don't find this annoying.

Yes, they are a little 'clicky'. I also prefer the pagepress system on the Voyage, but it's not a huge deal. I do find myself accidently touching the screen when I move my thumb off the forward button, and that then takes me back a page and I have to click again.

I still like the Kindle Keyboard's buttons the best. Actually, what I want is a revamped KK. Same form factor, page buttons, slightly concave soft plastic back, speakers, TTS. Remove the keyboard and extend the screen downward, keeping approx same width and pocketability. Add front light and flush screen. I'd be all over that.

Not me. I found it almost impossible to pick up the KK without accidentally turning the page. The buttons were too large, and too easy to press unintentionally. My favourite of all are the haptic sensors of the Voyage.

I have found that pressing the tip of the button, as opposed to the entire button, produces silent page turns.

Got mine today. As I also have the old Oasis, then nothing particularly surprising - the same form factor (only bigger and heavier, of course), the screen is about the same quality too, only larger. There is noticeable gradient, brighter on the LED side, yellower on the other. I can live with that, replacing would be too much bother for me. All in all, the new Oasis is pretty much as I expected. Will have to do some reading on it, to see how it feels in my hand during a longer session.
The contrast is about the same as on my old Oasis, i.e. nothing beats the contrast on the Voyage. But with the new boldness options it's a non-issue. One other thing, on the new Oasis I find it easier to read with the font upped one size (to size 6). So I'm afraid the larger screen won't be of much use for me, heh. Anyway, I like all my three Kindles and am going to read on all of them. |

If Amazon made a K4NT with a Carta or better screen + frontlight ( + maybe touch) and definitely with 5-way button, I would choose it over the Voyage and the Oasis. |

I certainly would find mine bothering, if I read in a dark or poorly lit room. In bright light it's not really visible. My new Oasis has a stronger gradient than my old one, but no shadow cones like the old has.

Funny thing is, I took some photos with my phone (which admittedly has a rather poor camera, but I don't have anything else at the moment) in different lighting conditions and the screen actually looks somewhat better in the photos than in real life. The gradient is more visible to the naked eye.

I don't remember seeing it on my first one, but I had to return and order a new one. If I think about it like a regular book, the pages close to the spine will be curved, it is a little like that, where it just tapers off towards that edge. I don't really notice it unless I am looking at it, but when I do look for it, I cant un-see it. |

My first one had a bit of a gradient. First new Oasis2 that is. I had to get a replacement because it had some black spots in the middle of the screen. The replacement has so little gradient that its not noticeable at all. Almost non existent. Pretty much as perfect a screen it can be.
So there is some variation on them. I held them side by side when I had them both for a couple of days on same font and light and it was really obvious then. Although really the first one would also have been readable under normal light settings and I probably would not have exchanged it was it not for the black dots. |
