This free ebook was published by Verso Books and is called The Brexit Crisis: A Verso Report. It was published just in the last few days.
For those who are not aware, "Brexit" is the term that is applied for the decision by Great Britain two or three weeks ago to exit the Economic Union of Europe (the "EU"). You can get the book in either the mobi and ePub formats, or both of them if you desire. Linky. |

I just learned about the fact that The Art Canada Institute (so as not to offend French-speaking Canadians, "Institut De L'Art Canadien") has a wonderful series of free online art books showcasing Canadian artists and visual culture. You can read them online or download them in PDF.
All of the books appear to be about artists working in the genre of "Modern Art." I know almost nothing about Modern Art (and being generally uncultured as I am know very little about art in general, for that matter). However, one reviewer was very keen on the book about Paul-Emile Borduas. Anyway, here is a list of the artists who are the subjects of the books: Pitseolak Ashoona. Paul-Emile Borduas. Oscar Cahen. Emily Carr. Jack Chambers. Yves Gaucher. General Idea. Prudence Heward. Paul Kane. Jean Paul Lemieux. Norval Morrisseau. William Notman. Kathleen Munn. Michael Snow. Tom Thomson. Harold Town. Zacharie Vincent. Joyce Wieland. You can find all of the books here. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 07-16-2016 at 01:58 PM. |

Story of Young Lady Who Escaped from North Korea TWICE.
I was only able to skim the book description and the Wikipedia article on Hyeonseo Lee, but this is a truly remarkable, remarkable woman. Get the book about her story for perhaps the never-to-be-surpassed price of only $1.99 (13% of the digital list price)!
The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector's Story. By Hyeonseo Lee; David John (contributor). Rated 4.7 stars, from 387 reviews at the present moment at Amazon. Print list price $26.99; digital list price $14.99; Kindle price now $1.99. William Collins, publisher. 320 pages. https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Seven-Na.../dp/B00JD3ZL9U. Book Description An extraordinary insight into life under one of the world’s most ruthless and secretive dictatorships – and the story of one woman’s terrifying struggle to avoid capture/repatriation and guide her family to freedom. As a child growing up in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee was one of millions trapped by a secretive and brutal communist regime. Her home on the border with China gave her some exposure to the world beyond the confines of the Hermit Kingdom and, as the famine of the 1990s struck, she began to wonder, question and to realise that she had been brainwashed her entire life. Given the repression, poverty and starvation she witnessed surely her country could not be, as she had been told “the best on the planet”? Aged seventeen, she decided to escape North Korea. She could not have imagined that it would be twelve years before she was reunited with her family. She could not return, since rumours of her escape were spreading, and she and her family could incur the punishments of the government authorities – involving imprisonment, torture, and possible public execution. Hyeonseo instead remained in China and rapidly learned Chinese in an effort to adapt and survive. Twelve years and two lifetimes later, she would return to the North Korean border in a daring mission to spirit her mother and brother to South Korea, on one of the most arduous, costly and dangerous journeys imaginable. This is the unique story not only of Hyeonseo’s escape from the darkness into the light, but also of her coming of age, education and the resolve she found to rebuild her life – not once, but twice – first in China, then in South Korea. Strong, brave and eloquent, this memoir is a triumph of her remarkable spirit. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 07-16-2016 at 09:00 PM. |

The Lost Gospel: Decoding the Ancient Text that Reveals Jesus' Marriage to Mary the Magdalene has dropped to $2.99, previously $10.99. The price dropped on the first of July, and I'm not sure if this is a limited time price drop, or a new regular price.
Google Play still has the book at $10.99, and I wasn't able to check iTunes so I'm not sure if it's discounted there or not. |

I figured I would add to GtrsRGr8's art books.
This is the link for Getty Publications Virtual Library which has a lot of general interest art books as well as a good selection of books that go very deep into the nuts and bolts of making art. http://www.getty.edu/publications/vi...ary/index.html This is For The National Gallery Of Arts PDF backcatalog which delves into the very rich and incredibly diverse art history of the United States. http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/re...f-library.html And Finally my all time favorite free online art collection is The Metropolitan Art Museum's 1500 + books collection. This one covers the entire history of Humankind's art making across every discipline. It is truly an fantastic treasure trove for Art Lovers. http://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpubl...ll-text-online Last edited by Red Falcon; 07-17-2016 at 02:23 AM. Reason: Added Link |
