I have never had much success getting this plugin to work on my system (win7 64bit Ultimate). So I thought I would try yet again today.
No luck I got the following error message on trying to install the plugin with no iOS device attached. Any suggestions? |

If you have more than one device, power off all of them except the one you want to connect. Connect your idevice via USB to your PC and try installing the plugin again.

That error may happen when the plugin sees an idevice over wifi and not via usb, which is why I said to power off all idevices except the one connected via usb.

I eventually got it installed after I removed the Marvin plugin. Same as before though still sits there doing nothing not showing my iPad mini.

I upgrade to caibre 2.15.0 and updated the plugins. I got this error message:

Make sure no iDevices are connected to calibre while installing the plugin.
This means no iDevices should be plugged into the computer at the time, and also that no iDevices should be connected to the same WiFi network (see post #426 ![]() |

Hi,
I have been using Calibre with Marvin on my iPad Mini Retina (gen2). MacOS 10.6.8. I'm using Calibre 1.48 (last supported version for OSX 10.6.8) When the iPad was on iOS7, everything worked flawlessly... Then I did something stupid and upgraded my iPad to iOS8. Ever since then, Calibre will not recognize my iPad. I've tried deleting and re-installing Calibre. then tried to reinstall the IOSra. but now I can't even install the iOSra... help! I assume there's some conflict between the current iOSra the Calibre 1.48 tries to load? or is there something weird with the iOS8.1.2? currently I can only upload the books on Marvin database via iTunes (drag-n-drop epub files...).. Manual load works fine, but the files that were uploaded using Calibre the titles are all encrypted (or re-written into bunch of codes). so even managing what is on the iPad is difficult. is there an older version of iOSra that will work with Calibre 1.48 and iOS8.1.2 on my iPad mini retina? here's the error code I get now trying to install iOSra: ********** calibre, version 1.48.0 ERROR: Install Plugin Failed: A problem occurred while installing this plugin. This plugin will now be uninstalled. Please post the error message in details below into the forum thread for this plugin and restart Calibre. @akita, in IOS 8, Apple changed the protocol used to communicate with idevices. This meant a lot of changes to the libimobiledevice library that IOSRA uses to talk to your idevice. libimobiledevice is bundled up with the Calibre install. Because you are using an old Calibre, its libimobiledevice is not compatible with IOS 8, so I think you are out of luck, unless you can use the latest version of Calibre (I don't enough about OSX and why you have to use an old Calibre with it).

I don't believe libimobiledevice is used on OSX, though. Doesn't it rely on builtin OSX libraries?
Regarding calibre v1.48, it is the latest version that works on OSX 10.6.x, according to the download page. |

No, it uses libimobiledevice everywhere. I dont think Apple provides any services to talk to iOS devices, even on OS X. But I dont use Apple products, so I could be wrong about that.

However, Calibre doesn't recognize the iPad at all. I've tried with Marvin, which just sits at "Ready...". Calibre does communicate happily and wirelessly with my Nexus 7 (which is not currently on, so it doesn't interfere), and other iOS apps have no issues connecting wirelessly to my laptop (Windows 8.1), e.g. Air Video HD. Any help is appreciated. ![]() |
