Intresting video, and I would love to get my hands on it and find out if the public library feature is Overdrive only ( I have a sinking feeling it is. sigh. But I might be wrong).

I'm interested in that, too.

1:18 - Runs on Sony Reader software, not Android.

1:40 - Only looks similar to Android.

1:49 - 7 different fonts with 8 font sizes. (No demonstration.)

Here's a video that shows how to change fonts and font sizes. Unfortunately they don't show the upper half of the reader, so you can't see all the font choices in the video.

Video on post Nr. 423:

It looks like they fixed the ridiculous landscape mode. At least in zoomed mode switching to landscape mode it seems font size doesn't alter (as in former ereaders).

The white model looks really nice. These videos are quite helpful in deciding which color to get, if I'll have to buy without trying one.

It looks like the glare on the bezel won't be a real concern because if you have bright spot light the glare on the screen is the bigger factor. Assuming it's the same as other pearl screens, not much Sony or anyone can do about it.

Shocking, isn't it! I've been thinking the same thing which surprised me. I usually prefer black, but the white does look really nice.

Same here. I usually go for black or darker colors but the white looks nice. I don't know which color I will get but I am getting one. This reader has everything I want in an epub reader. I can't think of any negatives like I did with the Nook Touch or Kobo Touch.

Probably because the white isnt picking up the glare as much as the red or black on camera. In other videos though the white is just as glossy and most definitely glares just as much.

I don't know for the Nook, but the Kobo Touch ticks all those too (well weight a tad different but really most of these feel lighter than a physical book to me anyway).. so curious what the negatives were for the Kobo and Nook?

Kobo
  • No regular epub dictionary support at the time it came out.
  • It has a quilted back.
  • It's seemed slow
  • No Collections
  • It's also really buggy:
    Storage error, Battery problem...etc
    (fixed in latest firmware)
  • The Company is outside the U.S.
  • Kobo's Customer support.

Nook
  • I didn't like the shape of it
  • Weird page turn buttons
  • 750mb space is designated for B&N books only.
  • It's only slightly lighter then my Kindle.
  • Didn't like how non B&N books on SD Card are organized.

The T1 is really sleek, thin and light and that is a big thing for me. It's the perfect replacement for my Pocket Pro. My Pocket Pro weighs the same and I can use one hand to read on it because it's so light. My K3 is heavy and I have to prop it on something after awhile. Sony is a known brand name and has always made solid readers even though I never like them before I love the look of this one.

Obviously can't speak to the Nook but I can address some of your Kobo Touch points (which may have changed since you last looked?);

*Dictionary - Dictionary does seem to work on sideloaded ePubs (just tested now)
*Quilted Back - style is personal, so fair enough. I actually like it from a grip/feel point of view (not a fan of the gloss/reflective look SONY has gone with).
*Slow - It's my first eInk reader, but it seems ok to me, and slowness didn't stand out to me compared to a K3 I played with the other night. Firmware has been updated a bit since release so maybe some performance gains?
*Collections - No, doesn't have this.
*Bugs - yes it has had some, but I personally didn't experience any so I'm unsure how many people these are affecting in the broader world, nor have other companies not had bugs (including SONY). A positive is most of these bugs seem to have been systematically fixed (including the storage error one) so I don't see this as a major negative.
*Company outside US - Why does this matter?
*Kobo Customer Support - if some of the posts in the Kobo forum is the norm, then yes the email customer support needs a lot of improvement. I'm not sure on the phone customer support you'd have access to in the US though. There have been some positive reports too. SONY customer support in my country has been abysmal for a range of products I've owned in the past so I actually placed a negative in the SONY column when considering my first eReader.

The new SONY "looks" nice, and the previous model was in contention as my first eInk reader. Ended up going with the Kobo for various reasons - very poor SONY support in past, it's price (which the new one fixes somewhat), lacking store for where I live being some of the main ones. I guess well now how it (SONY) stacks up once we get more people with more hands on.

Anyway thanks for sharing. Interesting to hear peoples thoughts and competition is always good.
