I think I'm going to have to try this. Maybe it will help me gain some control, lol. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to buy any new books until my owned TBR pile gets under 10. Then today I bought 4 pb books from Amazon and the bookclub I joined on goodreads has two books per month.

I do something similar--I have an unread-library shelf that I stick new books in, and I reserve the official to-read shelf for just the books I'm planning (hoping?) to read during the current month.

I'm about to add yet another - to-read-later - for all the unread books that I'm not considering for the reading challenge. I'm really starting to like using Goodreads, so I want to use it more fully. Right now I'm downloading any missing ISBNs in Calibre so I can export a csv file to import into Goodreads. Much faster that way, especially since there's at least a couple hundred books going onto that shelf.

I have to confess I haven't really read any of the discussions at our Goodreads group. I seems I just can't find the time to keep up a little with the forum here and goodreads and real life But a thread per genre is a really great idea!

I've actually surprised myself a lot this last month. I'm working on book 9 right now. So it seems I'll actually make it to 100 books this year

The Hunger Games) or because there isn't anything on my TBR list that I'm in the mood for.
I don't keep a TBR list either. I have one on goodreads, but that's mainly to remind myself which books I really need to buy in the near future. When I finish a book, I usually just grab the next on one my shelf.

True! I think I am where you are. I have been having fun, not only setting things up, but learning about others reading habits and preferences. I've cut my goal in 1/2 ( 25 to 50 instead of 50 to 100).

Again we are in agreement! The seperate threads is a great idea. I'm also looking forward to reading genres that are new to me, namely Romances and Mystery, as I've stayed mainly in the Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy camps.

I like this idea, but I think I would still be stuck with indecision as to what to put on the short list, so I tend to just wade through my options and see what sticks.

I'm hoping that joining both the 2011 challenge and the MR Book Club will help me as far as selections.

I thought I was going to only get in 5 books this month but all this snow might make it 6.

I'm at 19 books now. Though technically "Animal farm" doesn't quite clock in at 200 pages.

Qualifying Length

I've forgotten the rule:

Books must be at least 150pgs to count towards the 100 Books Challenge, correct?

If so, that means (assuming my calculations are correct) Kindle books should have a "highest" location number of at least 1700 or 1800 (give or take a few) in order to qualify.

Yes, 150 pages.

I read somewhere online that the range is from 11 locations per page for paperback to 16.5 locations per page for large format (ie, textbook), so I'd say that would be about right. Especially since chapter breaks sometimes have a nearly-blank page on paper that doesn't count for locations in a Kindle ebook.

Thank you for confirming. That matches my findings.
I tried a few books and the range was between 11.39 locations per page and 11.98.
I have a lot of public domain books with no page number listing, so, a "page to location" conversion is quite helpful.

You're quite welcome. I have a lot of indies that have no paper version available to check, so I have the same issue sometimes.

I am way behind. I did fine first, but my reader is new and shiny, and there are so much interesting e-books out, and so many free e-books to check out. And new indie autors with interesting books, and you have to look on all the boards, so you don't miss a free interesting book.
And then I have to convert my fanfiction (the best of them). Very interesting with calibre but I had to practice first, and I did make mistakes and have to convert again, to get the right result.
But I'll try this month, and get more books to read (will read them myself, not get more books to read maybe).
