I look forward to the day our electronics all go in the bin.

It's likely that a new term is needed to cover those who reject all advances in technology (luddites) and those who embrace all new techology as soon as possible (early adopters). I tend to wait a long time before taking a risk on a new technology, and only if I have an actual need for it. This generally works to my advantage since it generally avoids the mistakes I've made in the past when I chose to take a risk on something that isn't firmly established (such as CD-i) and/or get involved in a format war (DCC vs. Minidisc).

Long story short.... I had to get one so I could teach my mom, her brother and his wife how to use them. This includes me managing them also, as I do their email accounts and books. Other than having to charge it more often that my other phone, I am starting to like it..... |

Does anyone out there still use a PAA (personal analog assistant)? For me, it's a piece of 8-1/2" x 11" paper that I've printed my calendar for the next 9 weeks on. On the reverse, I write down notes in pencil like things to do this week, a short grocery list, info from conversations, quick sketches of ideas when talking with colleagues. I fold it up and stick it and a mechanical pencil and pen in my shirt pocket and take it with me everywhere. I cross off stuff as it gets done or becomes irrelevant. When it gets too messy, I reprint my updated calendar and transfer any remaining important notes from the back of the previous one. It's everlasting, always with me, requires no software updates or 3G or 4G or 43G or Wifi. It's really cheap, too. Anybody else out there do something as archaic as that? Please, say yes.

Interesting thing I have noticed.......it does seem to be a 'family' thing. if one person has one, their whole familily probably will. Not always, but most times. Kinda like pod people, eh? ![]() |

I am out too (android) but the reason for me was GPS. Always wanted one. I have an orientation skill like a snail (distinguishing: inside, outside, up, down) so it really helps me to get where i have to go in town

Count me in! Calls and texts only.
I had to get a new phone recently and, while not a smartphone, it was capable of browsing the internet and all sorts of other fancy things. I had them disable those features as I kept accidentally hitting the button to access things that was costing me money each time. My previous phone was much simpler, and I greatly preferred it. ...wait, my phone also has a camera. Does that mean I'm out? ![]() Does the fact that I don't own a point and shoot camera besides my phone factor into the consideration at all? Someday I expect to get a no contract, prepaid, or pay-per-use phone. A girl can dream... |

I have a pay-as-you go phone. I would prefer if it just handled calls and text. Unfortunately do not seem to be able to get those anymore. It is not a "smart" phone but it does have the option of browsing the internet (which I do not use) and it has a camera (which I have to admit I have used).
