I don't have any food out (I think it's law that I can't) but I saw 7 deer behind my house this afternoon! I've had 4 who are regulars, but 7 is a new record!

We seem to have had an outbreak of squirrels this year; normally one or two are to be seen darting about the trees, but this year they appear to be all over the place!

I'll see your raccoons and deer and raise you...packrats. Packrats that have eaten the wiring harness out of one car ($1200.00) and nibbled on the wires of my new car, b/c it's exceedingly low to the ground and the damn Germans think that there's something smart about using a soy-based wiring coating. (Note to the Germans: Dudes! Packrats eat anything coated with soy, in a day or two. Stop using that.)
I cannot tell you the lengths we go to, to deal with Packrats. I'll take deer, coons and squirrels ANY DAY. Hitch |

We've got deer (seriously, NJ deer stand on the sidewalk and make YOU walk around THEM), turkeys (who WILL attack you, even if you're in your car), black bear (who raid swimming pools in the summer), etc., etc.
In our case, it's the deer mice that eat the car wiring. But squirrels are the worst. I had a family of gray squirrels in the attic one time. They are noisy, destructive, and too big for rat traps. I got a few Havahart live traps that worked well. We get flying squirrels in the attic pretty often. There are as many flying squirrels in NJ as gray squirrels, but few people ever see them because they only come out at night. Fortunately (for me, not them), rat traps do work on them. The real problem is that they're just so darn cute. I hate having to do it, but they do make a mess of the insulation. |

I've just ordered the groceries for my vacation next week. We'll pick them up on the way to the vacation park.
Normally I keep my cooking very basic (and cheap). But I decided that after the last six months I deserve some nice food and snacks, so I splurged. Also, normally I go out once or twice during my vacation, to a nearby town to do some shopping and have lunch/dinner or to go to a museum, zoo or something similar. This time not planning on any outings. If I feel like it, my back allows it and if the weather's good enough I might take some walks around the park or the estate across the road from the park. I've ordered all the food I need up until Friday, except bread (I'm going to get that fresh from the bakery on the park). On Saturday my sister's going to come over and we're going to do some funcooking (Dutch "gourmetten") and on Sunday I'll order something from the cafeteria or restaurant. I'm really looking forward to a week on my own, it's been two years since the last time and I really need some time to myself to recharge. |

Today I ordered my new laptop. My first proper gaming laptop (Lenovo Legion 5 Pro).
The annoying thing is that tomorrow I have to work all day, and I'm usually tired on Saturday night. On Sunday I'm busy cleaning, doing laundry and packing for my vacation and on Monday morning I'm running some errands before leaving for my cottage. So my initial plan was to bring both my old and my new laptop to my cottage and have all week to set up the new one. But I know myself. I'll end up doing it tomorrow evening/night, mainly because I want to try out my new toy and second I don't know how fast my internet connection is going to be at my cottage. I've already made a list of the most important apps/software I need to download and install. Next week I'm going to treat myself to a new game. I'm not sure which one yet, but probably a horror game. Probably not the smartest thing (I'm very good at scaring the sh*t out of myself being alone in a cottage), but it's a change from my sim games. |

Setting up my new laptop. Downloading and installing The Sims 4 plus all the pack takes longer than setting up, downloading and installing all the other software.
I just learned that yesterday The Sims turned 22. I got the game if not on release day I got it within a week after. I'm feeling old now. |

Setting up a new laptop (Lenovo P17 Gen 2, Core i9 processor) for one of my great-nieces. Very nice and powerful piece of hardware. I'm wondering if I could get her to believe it's going to take me at least another week to finish setting it up. Perhaps not a good idea since the delivery was delayed for months already.
