It used to be there was a spot to put the old Kobo cards and it applied the whole balance and then just subtracted from it as you bought books.

But on the new checkout I can't find a place to just enter the gift card and be done with it. It's made me put the card in each time. I even went on my PC (which still gets old Kobo), but don't see where to enter gc numbers there either. I cleared my credit card info thinking that would help, but nope.
You're thinking of the Kobo gift cards that Chapters used to carry. They deposited the balance. Chapters gift cards have to be entered every time.

Kobo/Chapters does their own conversion, which I find is pretty close to what the posted rates are on XE. Plus no fees from using a different currency!

I'm almost glad that Kobo isn't discounting the Big 5 US publishers.

Ugh. Kobo needs to add a cart feature, as do all online retailers of electronic goods. After buying six books at exactly the same price, my credit card company decided to retroactively deny the charges because they thought they were duplicates. And because my credit card company is worthless there is no way of un-denying those charges. So basically I got the books because they were initially approved and Kobo isn't getting paid and will no longer accept that card (obviously). What a mess. I just spent almost an hour on the phone with my credit card company trying to get Kobo their money to no avail. So frustrating. Beware. If you're buying multiple books for the same price, space them out 15 minutes to ensure that the transactions won't be denied if your credit card company is as lame as mine is.

How big is yours? Mine is more than 200 but less than 250

That's the other thing, when it's LOTS of individual transactions it's harder to know exactly how much you spent.

I agree, in fact having a cart is more likely to make me buy four or five books, the cheaper ones make the overall total feel like less per book, so I justify buying more.

On a naughty day, I might buy five or so books, one after the other. But it's such a pain, and so is reconciling my bank purchases (Visa debit card) against my accounting program, and adding in the foreign transaction fees for each individual purchase.

If they had a cart, I'd probably be more likely to buy two or three books at once, and more often.

Oh no! I no you got no receipts but you could print out your purchase history highlighting the ones they denied and fax or email it to your Credit Card company.

I have bought plenty of books like Kindle books 8 one right after another for the same price and never have a issue. I think my card is a problem due to Kobo being in Canada even though the Transaction says US.

All they need to do is add egift cards back and there wouldn't be an issue like this.

They say there is nothing they can do. The system denied the charges. On my end it says processing so I'm hoping that in the end it will get figured out. I told the three customer service reps at the cc company that I thought this was a stupid way of doing things. In a world of e-retailing without carts such as Amazon's e-downloads and Apple's iTunes store (where most songs are priced the same) they shouldn't automatically deny anything. I could see them putting the charges on hold after the third or fourth one and calling me to verify that they're valid but outright canceling them without a way of reversing it is just stupid. Tomorrow I'm calling other banks to find out what their policies are and I may just switch over this.
