Unutterably Silly So what are you doing RIGHT NOW?

I just kitted up a diamond painting I'm going to do along with another main one. This one is of a black cat face, it reminded me of Maru, but it's got almost 20,000 black "diamonds"/drills. I've put the drills in containers with their colour number and symbol on it. I've got four containers for the black, so I don't have to keep refilling it too often.

I've got the painting in 30 by 40 centimeter, I've cut the cover paper in sections of 5 by 5 centimeter. Every time I'm going to diamond paint I first have to a section of the black cat painting first before starting on my main painting. That way it'll take a while but it'll get done and I won't burn out on black drills. After that I got one of a plant with a white background.

Just surfing the net a bit. Had to power cycle my desktop earlier. It was taking forever to load pages. Shutting down, unplugging, reconnecting and rebooting cleared the cobwebs out.

Ordering Christmas presents. I'm getting my father a nice footrest for at his desk.

My sister wants to try out weaving, so I got her two different weaving looms (both small), a book, needles and some white yarn for warping thread. She has to pick out her own yarn for the projects she had in mind.

My mother wants a new kettle for on the gas heater (for water, to prevent dry air). The one she really wanted was more expensive, so my sister and I are pooling money to buy it for her.

Luckily all very easy presents to get, except that I had to figure out what I needed to get besides the weaving loom. I will have to tell my sister to go get yarn if she wants to use the loom over Christmas.

I'm also buying Xmas gifts online.

My SIL--of whom, truly, I am genuinely fond--sent me a list, for my FIL, right? All of which may be bought online. (Hooray).

However, did she send links? Noooo. She sent on shirt description taht for the life of me, I couldn't find on Eddie Bauer, right? So, I email her, saying, "I can't find this shirt."

What does she send back? Does she send a link?

NO.

She takes a PICTURE of the screen, with her smartphone, and emails it to me.

WTH?????

LOL. That sounds like my mother. My father's usually the problem, since he never knows what to ask (tools are out, since he can buy those on the store and deduct VAT). We spend all year making a list of everything he says he likes so we have things for his birthday in January, Father's Day and Christmas.

One of the looms I ordered for my sister is out of stock, they notified me of this and that the order will be send when it's back in stock. But they failed to mention when it's going to be back in stock. I emailed them, that the things I ordered are Christmas presents and it would be nice to have them by then and if they have any idea when it will be back in stock.

I've told my sister it might be a good idea to get yarn. She already knows she's getting a loom; it was the only thing she asked for.

Now I'm going to make tea, a snack and then continue with V Wars on Netflix. I watched four episodes last night and I'm enjoying it, wondering why they didn't release it for Halloween.

I watched that earlier this year. I thought it was really good.

After V Wars I'm probably going to watch High Seas, which my sister recommends.

I might look into getting Amazon Prime Video, which is now available in the Netherlands. On the other hand, my watchlist on Netflix is huge.

Whatever you do, hard pass on Nightflyers. OMG, possibly The worst freaking thing I've ever seen. the 7th and 8th episodes were so so bad, I gave up on watching the remaining one or two. Simply godawful. I can't even come up with a good comparison, for how incredibly bad it really was.

(Honestly, I'm not a big GRRM fan, anyway, [which is odd, b/c he writes in one of my fave genres for escapism] but this put paid to it for eternity.)

Learn how watch a different program with each eye. That might slow the growth of the watchlist.

Don't blame GRRM for how badly a screen version of one of his works turned out. Once a story gets optioned for the screen, all bets are off, and what gets produced may bear no resemblance save the title to what was in the written story.

A series based on George's Wild Cards anthologies is under development for Hulu. Executive production of that one is being handled by George's co-editor on the works, Melinda Snodgrass. George's contract with HBO for Game of Thrones prohibits him from working on the Wild Cards series. (You may assume George talks to her about it regularly, but he can have no official paid involvement.) Melinda wrote several produced scripts for Star Trek: TNG, and was Story Editor for the second and third seasons of that show. So like George, she has served in the TV trenches and understands what she's getting into.

My issue with GRRM isn't related to the Teevee idjits, mostly.

It's just his view of things. I mean...in GOT, if someone was born with money, with power or with looks, you can betcherbooties that they were gonna get effed. He patently loathes anyone attractive or beautiful. I mean, his loathing oozes out of his text, out of the screen if watching GOT on HBO.

Same with any other advantages that a person may have through birthright. Money or power, I mean, fuhgeddaboudit.

It simply feels like that classic ugly kid trope, "I'm gonna get even with you by putting you in my BOOK!" It's like classic illogic--it's not okay, in PC culture, to laugh at someone for being born with something that works against them--a handicap, or an issue with their looks, or some physical disability that impairs their looks. Right? Polite and decent people wouldn't do that, right? CUZ, that would be wrong, right?

But, hey, it's okay to hate and loathe some OTHER person that was born good-looking! Let's hate that person and scheme to bring them down! Or because their parents are wealthy. All accidents of birth, but if you're not one of the golden ones, well, then, all that PC niceness just goes right out the window.

To me, it's lame. Being born attractive or wealthy or advantaged isn't a personality flaw or make that person a horrible human being, and you get that mindset over and over and over with GRRM.
