Can anyone tell me why I get the new site and using Chrome have been able to use the 'magic' code, But my friend who lives 15 minutes from me can only get the old site? She even tried at her work and can only get the old site there too.
I thought the change over from old to new site was by country, not individual users?
Is there anything she can do to force the new site to load over the old one?

And yes, books are stupidly expensive here in New Zealand. Treebooks have always been expensive, averaging around $30- $40 for a new release. eBooks are slightly better priced but are still often more expensive than for other countries, as I was shocked and peeved to find out when I first worked out how to buy in other countries.
If the book is by a New Zealand author, new ebooks can be not too far off the treebook price, although often they drop in price after a few months.
The reason all manner of things are often more expensive here in NZ has usually been put down to the fact we are so far away from other countries and so it costs more to get goods into the country.
I have asked several publishers and even a published author but no one has ever given me an answer as to why ebooks are so much more expensive here. They certainly cant blame the shipping costs!

Chapter One re the issue of not being able to get through to the new look website a few ideas come to mind, but primarily the reason may be because Kobo reverted all their country sites bar the US back to the old checkout for great periods today (if not all day).

I'm on my tablet so can't test any sites at the moment.

Apart from that - was your friend using Chrome and still couldn't access the US site's new checkout?

Did the friend change their country to the US first?

I didn't think these were small charges enough to lock a card.
They aren't nickle books like the 300 hundred I bought a few years back.
Something must have changed.

Also - I've found that if i try to buy a book that is not discountable then the old check out appears. Whereas if the book is discountable then the new check out appears.

I'm kind of surprised... Even if Kobo can't fix the bug in the new checkout quickly, it seems like a quick fix would be to disable or expire any codes that are being used repeatedly so that you get the error message that the promo isn't active.

I have been unable to download any of the books I bought that were in pdf format. I spoke with someone from customer service but all she could tell me was that my account would be credited with the amount. That's great but I will not get the great discount on them again. Any ideas?
