It's not hard, it just costs money.
There are a small handful of people who want TTS on their newer-model Kindles. You are one of those unusual people. Amazon is not making a (more expensive) device specially for you. |

Not sure why I need a flexible screen in a rigid device though. My K1 is still fine to this day. Flexible would only work if everything was flexible.
Also don't care about a bigger device. That means more weight and less easiness if reading for me. The wider the surface to read the more I have to keep moving my head. 6 inch is about paper back size so its fine. More portable, more readable, and at this point, more popular. All kindles but the DX have been 6 inches. Don't care what kobo does, I have no access to kobo here. So its a moot point. Its after all a thread about kindles. |

Even if the shell isn't marred, the transmitted shock could still crack the substrate. I had that happen with one of my earlier ereaders, and I have seen displays crack like that behind the gorilla glass in phones. |

One more thing I left out. User replaceable battery with an easy to get battery.

New Kindle said to be due end September

I replaced a battery in one if my devices. I believe it was my K3. It wasn't the most straightforward of operations, but it wasn't that bad, either, if you watched the video. |

The perceived demand these day though seems to be for ever thinner and more lightweight devices, which mitigates against designs incorporating user-accessible (and replaceable) batteries. It's really not feasible on devices only a few mm thick.
