A big batch (20 or so) of Sharon McCone titles (and one Joanna Stark) by Marcia Muller are on sale right now at prices ranging from $0.99 to $3.99, at both Kindle and Kobo US. For some reason, I can't get the Kindle search to sort by price, nor filter by price - it keeps sticking random titles in the middle at higher prices, and not putting in price order either.

So here's the Kobo US link, and for Kindle, you can either go look for yourself, or look at the Kobo list to see what's on sale, and then go find it at Kindle...

Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?Qu...9&fcmedia=Book

Note that the $0.99 title, Skeleton in the Closet, is a short story/novella, even though the blurb calls it a book (#32).

If anyone can get a Kindle link to work, I'd love it if you post it - I have been having real trouble with Kindle searches recently...

After Dark, My Sweet by Jim Thompson is currently on sale for $1.99.

Quote:
William "Kid" Collins was once a respected boxer. Now he's a drifter, on the run after escaping from a mental institution.

One afternoon he meets Fay, a beautiful young widow. She is smart and decent -- at least when she's sober.

Soon Collins finds himself involved in a kidnapping scheme that goes drastically wrong almost before it even begins. Because the kid they've picked up isn't like other kids: he's diabetic and without insulin, he'll die. Not the safest situation for Collins, a man for whom stress and violence have long gone hand-in-hand.

After Dark, My Sweet once again displays Jim Thompson as the undisputed master of American noir. The basis of James Foley's critically acclaimed film of the same name, with the sweep of an epic tragedy, Thompson's classic limns the dangerous territory of honest people all-too-easily sucked into wickedness, with no way out but down.

Cherry Bomb is the sixth in the Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels series by J.A. Konrath. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Cherry-Bomb-T...dp/B00BB2E4K8/

Spoiler:
Quote:
At the end of Fuzzy Navel, J. A. Konrath surprised readers with an agonizing cliffhanger: One of Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels's loved ones is dead. But who? Readers were left clamoring to know more.

Cherry Bomb, the sixth Jack Daniels mystery, opens at the funeral. While Jack stands graveside, tears in her eyes, her cell phone rings. It's the killer, escaped maniac Alex Kork, taunting Jack, drawing her ever further into a twisted game of cat and mouse. Because while Alex is more than willing to kill random victims, Jack is her true prey. But which woman wants revenge more?

Cherry Bomb is J. A. Konrath's most gripping novel of suspense yet--filled with twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

If you are a more sensitive (or adventurous) reader, this handy scale rates specific categories from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) to give you some idea if this is your kind of book.

Incidentally, The Getaway from Jim Thompson is also $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
Doc McCoy is the most skilled criminal alive. But when for the first time in Doc's long criminal career, his shot doesn't hit the mark, everything begins to fall apart. And Doc begins to realize that the perfect bank robbery isn't complete without the perfect getaway to back it up.

THE GETAWAY is the classic story of a bank robbery gone horribly wrong, where the smallest mistakes have catastrophic consequences, and shifting loyalties lead to betrayals and chaos. The basis for the classic Steve McQueen film of the same name, as well as a 1994 remake with Alec Baldwin, Thompson's novel set the bar for every heist story that followed--but as Thompson's proved time and again, nobody's ever done it better than the master.

Margaret Maron's Three-Day Town, which (per SYKM) won the 2011 Agatha Award for Best Novel, is on sale at Kindle and Kobo US for $3.99. Not a great sale price, but I really like this series. Oh yeah, and this title also includes Maron's other detective, Sigrid Harald.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QZ9PAQ
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/three-day-town

Spoiler:
Quote:
Three-Day Town is the winner of the Agatha award for best novel.

After a year of marriage, Judge Deborah Knott and Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Bryant are off to New York City for a long-delayed honeymoon. January might not be the perfect time to take a bite of the Big Apple, but Dwight's sister-in-law has arranged for them to stay in her Upper West Side apartment for a week.

Deborah had been asked to deliver a package to Lieutenant Sigrid Harald of the NYPD from Sigrid's Colleton County grandmother. But when the homicide detective comes to pick it up, the package is missing and the building's super is found murdered. Now despite their desire to enjoy a blissful winter getaway, Deborah and Dwight must team up with Lt. Harald to catch the killer before he strikes again.

ADD: And just noticed, Long Upon the Land, winner of the 2015 Agatha Award for Best Contemporary Novel, also in the Deborah Knott series, is also on sale for $3.99.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WF8IJVC/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/long-upon-the-land

Spoiler:
Quote:
WINNER OF THE AGATHA AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL

Margaret Maron, New York Times bestselling author and Mystery Writers of America Grand Master, returns to Colleton County with an exciting new Deborah Knott mystery . . .

On a quiet August morning, Judge Deborah Knott's father Kezzie makes a shocking discovery on a remote corner of his farm: the body of a man bludgeoned to death. Investigating this crime, Deborah's husband, Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Bryant, soon uncovers a long-simmering hostility between Kezzie and the slain man over a land dispute. The local newspaper implies that Deborah's family may have had something to do with the murder-and that Dwight is dragging his feet on the case.

Meanwhile, Deborah is given a cigarette lighter that once belonged to her mother. The cryptic inscription inside rekindles Deborah's curiosity about her parents' past, and how they met. For years she has wondered how the daughter of a wealthy attorney could have married a widowed, semi-illiterate bootlegger, and this time she's determined to find the answer.

But why are Deborah's brothers so reluctant to talk about the dead man? Is the murder linked to Kezzie's illegal whiskey business? And could his courtship of Deborah's mother have something to do with the bad blood between the two families? Despite Deborah's promise not to interfere in Dwight's work, she cannot stop herself from doing everything she can to help clear her brothers and her father from suspicion . . .
