Although enjoyable, I wouldn't recommend reading the Kenzie and Gennaro books after Shutter Island and Mystic River. After those two books they were a disappointment.

That's the beauty of a reader, you don't get wrist-ache trying to hold a mammoth book. Also, it makes you try things you wouldn't normally bother with, as it was a free download from Sony.
I found this book so interesting I could not put it down... I'm certainly going to read it again...

Thanks.. Got a copy on my Kindle this morning. Stayed up late last night finishing The Black Dahlia. Can't imagine how it could have been interpreted on film and have no intention of watching the movie version.

Also picked up a copy of Crime Wave at Powells Books and it's on my pile of to-be-read pbooks.

Now that I'm done with the Percy Jackson series, I've picked "The Lost City of Z" back up again. Now I want to read "King Solomon's Mines" because of it

The movie version of The Black Dahlia makes a LOT more sense if you've read the book first - it left a lot out about the characters and their connections.

I don't think I have mentioned on this thread that I have started the first volume of "La méthode" by Edgar Morin. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like his works have been translated to English much.

It's a very interesting but difficult read. My mind keeps wandering, and it's hard to keep my concentration when I read it on the train. It will probably take some time to finish.

I've been doing a lot of "assigned" reading lately. I've read some real stinkers but there have been a few brighter spots here and there. I've decided to share the ones I liked which are also available in electronic formats.

Yesterday I started a new sci-fi/urban fantasy called Child of Fire written by Harry Connolly. I'm about 100 pages into this debut novel and it really isn't sucking. I have high hopes for this novel staying consistent to the end. It's available as an ebook at Amazon, B&N, Fictionwise, Sony, Powell's and a few other places.

Reading "Feint of Art" by Hailey Lind on Li'l Bit, and "Decorated to Death" by Peg Marberg on the Storm.

I'm really enjoying "Feint of Art" - and learning a lot about the world of art and art forgery.

Still raiding the public library for James Patterson.

Finished Step on a Crack today. A nice read and introduces a completely new character. Some twists in the plot, but those who have read the Alex Cross series might have anticipated what they were.

Started Sail after that. Enjoying it so far, but that might be because it's totally different to the WMC or Alex Cross type novels.

I finished both of this month's Mobile Read Book Club selections, and am moving on to Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean: How a Generation of Swashbuckling Jews Carved Out an Empire in the New World in Their Quest for Treasure, Religious Freedom--and Revenge by Edward Kritzler.
